Preparation Program is here!
High school Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors have never had a more important time in their life to prepare for a test. If you would like details about this ACT Preparation Program, check my subject descriptions or email
for a more detailed breakdown of how I help students earn tens of thousands in scholarships.
My personal business philosophy
is to help students not just to find the right answers but help to develop problem solving skills and the ability to use their resources effectively. This approach to tutoring does more than just prepare a student to take and pass a test, it prepares them to be successful wherever life takes them. One of the benefits of this philosophy is that students learn to work independently rather than becoming reliant on a tutor. This is particularly powerful when a potential employer is determining which applicant is best able to work independently with the self-motivation to complete the tasks they are given.
I have lived in the Carlisle area for 15 years. I am active at Hillcrest Baptist Church as a substitute Sunday School teacher and with our regular adult mission trips. I enjoy jig fishing for crappie, bluegill, perch, and walleye. I graduated from Carlisle High School in 2007 but spent my last 2 years of high school taking courses at Miami University's Middletown Branch under the PSEO (Post Secondary Education Option) program. I then attended Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and in 2011 received my Bachelor of Science
degree in Engineering Physics
with a concentration in Nanotechnology and certification in Semi-Conductor Devices and Fabrication. Rose-Hulman is the highest rated undergraduate engineering school according to the U.S. News and World Report for well over a decade.
My freshman year of college I took a position as a tutor for the Homework Hotline. The Homework Hotline is a program funded by the state of Indiana and the Lily Endowment. It was setup to provide math
and science help over the phone to middle- and high-school students. The Homework Hotline employs over 100 tutors and many stay for all 4 years of study. I received the Tutor of the Quarter award in my first year. The supervisors chose me to receive the award because students would specifically request me again and because other tutors and supervisors would bring tough problems to explain to get my advice. I was always excited to be helping people understand things important to me. Some students and parents would call in just to say they are so thankful that they haven't needed help for weeks because they had learned how to solve any new problem not just the specific ones we were doing at the time. During the summer I continued to work for the Homework Hotline putting together promotional materials and self-learning online resource modules for students to use during times our tutors are unavailable. At the end of my second year with the Homework Hotline I was promoted to the role of supervisor. As a supervisor I would help other tutors with the most difficult questions they received, train new and experienced tutors alike, and evaluate experienced tutors to help them continue improving. In total over the 4 years with the Homework Hotline I spent over 500 actual hours tutoring students and an additional 66 hours of CRLA (College Reading
and Learning Association) approved training to ensure all tutors maintain CRLA Level 1 Certification.
