I just completed my bachelor's degrees in Secondary Education - Mathematics (grades 7-12) and Applied Mathematics in April 2012. I have had experience working with seventh, ninth and tenth grade students within the public school system. I have also devoted time to volunteering at The Boys and Girls Club (Somerset County - Pennsylvania) working with middle school students in the completion of daily math homework assignments.
I devote a great deal of time in preparing creative, interesting, and relevant lessons and activities. Teaching-tutoring is fun for me and I try to make each lesson fun for the students. But, I expect the students I am working with to take their tutoring sessions with me seriously.
Students should come to tutoring sessions ready to try! The phrase "I can't" should not be used. If a student does not understand a concept or forgets how to do something, I will do my best to reteach a concept until they do understand it or teach the student an acronym/trick that will help them to memorize steps for solving a mathematics problem.
I decided in a career in education because I love working with kids and I believe in the power of education. Math can be fun! It does not have to be the subject that causes the most anxiety in your schedule. I'd like to be there to help you understand the math you are learning. Hopefully, I can introduce new ways of approaching problems that are not necessarily taught in your classroom.
Contact me if you would like me to be your new tutor! Thank you!
