I thoroughly enjoy teaching and have taught all ages, from pre-school through senior citizens. I am the co-founder of a small school in central Ohio that has met all the requirements to be recognized by the state as an educational facility. I have a B.A. degree, with a major in English and a minor in Education. Though some memorization is necessary in learning, I prefer my students comprehend processes rather than memorize a series of steps. I enjoy sports (Go Bucks), reading, and of course, my pet cats. Though I've taught math for many years, I have also taught all the main subjects as well as computer courses, such as Word and Excel. My favorite places to visit are historical sites, such as Williamsburg and Jamestown. If I can be of service to you, please let me know.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

My major is English and my minor is Elementary Education. I taught elementary grades for several years. The two main subjects for the younger elementary grades are reading (phonics) and math. As the child progresses through the grade levels, reading skills are enhanced through content subjects such as social studies and science. Though some memorization is always necessary in learning, comprehension through association is the method I use. This enables learning more quickly and stronger skills. What a joy it is to see children learning and enjoying it.

Elementary Math

I have taught elementary math to students at all grade levels. Though some memorization is needed, I stress comprehending the concepts. If the concepts are understood, they are retained. I also drill math with games and fun activities.

English

My major in college was English and I have both tutored and taught classes in various areas of English, from elementary grades through classes at COTC. Having a firm command of English is necessary to advance in life, both verbal and written skills.

Phonics

My major is English and my minor is elementary education. I taught elementary grades and pre-school for several years, with much emphasis on phonics and work attack skills. Through games and drills, children take ownership of phonics skills and begin to blend sounds into words. It is one of the most enjoyable experiences to guide a child in mastering these skills.

Social Studies

Social Studies encompasses several areas of study, including geography, history, government, and sociology. I have taught social studies for all the elementary grades and have enjoyed the challenge of making it meaningful to the students.
