How old is Samuel?

Samuel asked his friends to guess his age. He said that if you divide his age by the only even prime number and add for the result is the least common multiple of three and five. How old is Samuel?

Megan's Answer:

He's 22 correct? If you divide his age by 2 (the only even prime number) and add four, you get 15 which is the  LCM of 3 and 5

Megan's Answer:

Hi again Kevin... same process for this question. You want to work to get the x by itself to solve the equation.

Start by adding 13 to both sides and remember -103 PLUS 13 = -90... so you get -9x = -90

Next, divide both sides by -9 and you get x = 10

Incorrect Brian.... the multiplication step clears first before adding or subtracting any numbers.

Megan's Answer:

First, you'll want to distribute the -12 across the parentheses... that will make it 144 = -12x - 60

Second, get the x by itself by adding 60 to both side... that'll make it 204 = -12x

Last, divide both sides by -12 ... that'll make it -17 = x
