My name is Michael and I hold a B.S degree in Mathematics and completed 28 hours of graduate work in Mathematics/Statistics at Eastern Michigan University. I am currently certified to teach all levels of middle and high school mathematics, physics, and economics. Prior to earning my B.S degree, my previous major was Engineering. The combination of my college course work left me with a major in mathematics, Statistics and Physics, and a minor in Chemistry and Economics. I have had additional coursework in Accounting.

I have passed the background check and am willing to meet prior to first tutoring session. I am married with 4 boys in the Loveland Schools, coach and referee soccer.

I have had one year of experience teaching mathematics to high school students ranging from Basic Math to Pre-Calculus. I am certified to teach Mathematics, Physics and Economics in the state of Ohio. Additionally, while attending junior college, I worked as a tutor in the math lab. I also tutored my two oldest children when they completed their Geometry class in ninth grade in order to be accepted in the post-secondary option for high school students. In order for them to begin taking classes at college in 10th grade, they had to pass a math placement test at the level of College Algebra or higher. They tested just below the Calculus level after about 4 weeks of tutoring due primarily to my ability to determine which topics are most relevant. Additionally, working as an Actuary, I have demonstrated my ability to study in an efficient manner by passing a large number of Actuarial exams at a 90% passing rate when the average passing rate for actuarial exams is approximately 40%. I feel it's more important to teach a student to study properly than to just memorize facts to be forgotten after a test. This allows the student to recall more information when a midterm or final exam is given.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Science

I completed a major in Physics and Minor in Chemistry.

Actuarial Science

I'm an Associate in Society of Actuaries and am an enrolled Actuary by the Department of Labor

I am an Actuary by trade, so I understand how to prepare for the Actuarial exams (I completed over 20 exams), and understand actual practice of an actuary.

Algebra 1

I have taught Algebra 1 in a class setting and have also have about 3 years experience tutoring this level of Mathematics.

Algebra 2

I have taught Algebra 2 in a class setting and have also have about 3 years experience tutoring this level of Mathematics.

ASVAB

I have tutored numerous students taking the ASVAB with all students obtaining their goal score. I have also taken the exam myself and was a member of the USAR.

Calculus

I have tutored this subject through Calculus 3. I have developed a way to prepare and organize material to help in identifying the problem type tested.

Chemistry

I completed a minor in Chemistry, but am really only comfortable tutoring Chemistry up to but not including Organic Chemistry.

Computer Programming

I have taken a variety of computer programming courses. The courses include Fortran, SPSS, SAS, and also have some knowledge in visual basic. In my past 3 places of employment, I have been the office expert in software usage.

Differential Equations

My major in College was mathematics which included Differential Equations. The course was solely on Differential Equations and was 4 semester hours. I scored almost a perfect score in this course.

Discrete Math

I completed both an undergraduate and graduate level course in Discrete Math. The two courses were part of the Mathematics undergraduate curriculum and graduate program with a majority of the focus on proving theorems.

Econometrics

I completed course work in a pure Econometrics course, along with similar coursework as part of my graduate Statistics program. This material was also covered in an actuarial exam.

Economics

I completed a minor in Economics.

Geometry

I completed both an undergraduate and graduate course in Geometry.

Linear Algebra

I completed two courses in Linear Algebra (one course at the graduate level) and covered Linear Programming in an Operations Research course I completed.

Microsoft Excel

In my past 3 places of employment dating back 12 years, I have been classified as the office expert for excel.

I am picking up most of my tutoring jobs for the subject geometry. Getting different students perspective in the same subject is allowing me to see how students learn differently.

I want to thank the three students thus far who have used my services and the other students who are thinking about needing my services in the future. The inquiries are picking up and I am really enjoying helping people.

A very patient teacher with very strong knowledge based. — Mr. D. was very patient in teaching both of my high school boys. They needed help in Calculus, Algebra, Chemistry and Computer Programming classes. Mr. D. explained how to do problems clearly and he often prepared before hand so that he had better ways to explain complicated problems with clear approaches. My boys learnt a lot from Mr. D., and their grades were much better than before in the above ...
