I just recently moved to the Columbus area from Savannah, and I am enjoying myself here so far. I was a substitute teacher in Ohio for three years, working with K-6th students from 7 different schools, so I worked with a variety of characters and personalities! Also, I was a foster parent for many, many years but did not renew my license when I moved here. Fostering was a great experience and I got to meet a lot of children from all backgrounds. I worked with some of their parents to get their lives back on track so that the kids could go back home to a safe and loving environment.
I earned my Master of Special Education in December, which I am very excited about! I like to make learning fun for both the student and myself by using all of the senses and making learning into a game. If reading is challenging, we can make flash cards or play the memory game with sight words, or if math is difficult, we can multiply and divide using beads or noodles.
Lastly, I am patient, kind, and creative and love to work with kids to achieve that "a-ha" moment where the light bulb turns on and they understand a concept, it is such a great reward for me!
