Greetings! I have a doctorate in Electrical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, and teaching experience at the college level. As a graduate student, I also worked as a math and science tutor for middle-school students. I find working with individuals or small groups of students of any age to be very rewarding. There is nothing like seeing a student realize that they do have what it takes to master a difficult subject!

As an engineer, my background is heavily weighted towards algebra, calculus, trigonometry, statistics, and physics. If you are a college student, I'm also very comfortable with linear algebra and differential equations, along with other topics engineers typically encounter. I have extensive experience programming Matlab.

My approach to tutoring is to first establish the student's current level of knowledge and experience with the subject, then carefully build on that base of knowledge by working through example problems. I also find that it works well to have the student "teach" problems to me. In my experience, the process of verbally describing a problem does a lot to help one learn it.

I am looking forward to working with you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Differential Equations

I took both differential equations and partial differential equations in college, through the math department, and I also studied this topic in my "engineering math" course. Many of my engineering courses required the application of differential equations. Although calculus is the most common subject that I tutor, I've also recently worked with two students studying differential equations. If a topic comes up that I don't completely remember, I refresh myself on it before conducting a meeting.

Electrical Engineering

I have a doctorate in Electrical Engineering, with an emphasis on image and signal processing. As an adjunct professor, I've taught Signals & Systems, Senior Design, and Communications Theory. I have a solid knowledge of the coursework that a typical undergraduate electrical engineering student will encounter, and I enjoy tutoring these subjects because it gives me a chance to refresh my own knowledge of them.

MATLAB

As a graduate student, I used Matlab extensively with my research and coursework. I also designed Matlab examples and homework problems to teach students basic engineering concepts, especially in Signals & Systems. As an engineering employee, I used Matlab's GUI capabilities to design user interfaces for prototype software.

Awesome tutor! — Clayton is an awesome tutor, he was patient and very knowledgeable in Statistics. I would highly recommend him, he is the only reason I was able to pass my Statistics class.
