I am a recent graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a B.S. in electrical engineering and a minor in bioengineering. I have just recently moved to Columbus, and I am looking to share my services with area high school and college students. My background is strongest in mathematics and physics, but I also offer help in high school-level and introductory college-level Spanish.

My tutoring approach for mathematics and physics focuses first on working to understand from where each formula, equation, method, etc. originated. From there I work to help visualize the topic at work in the real world. Additionally, I frequently use computer software to generate visual representations of functions, to help further the understanding of what each function actually looks like and how it behaves. In my experience, understanding the origin of something facilitates easier recollection of the formulae and equations, while understanding real-world applications facilitates a lasting comprehension of the mathematical concepts involved.

I currently work part-time for Tutor.com as an online Math tutor, but I enjoy tutoring face-to-face and love opportunities to teach in subject areas outside of pure mathematics, like physics, chemistry, and Spanish.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Differential Equations

I completed the course MATH 286, Introduction to Differential Equations Plus, at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. This course emphasized first- and second-order ordinary differential equations (ODEs), with some coverage of partial differential equations (PDEs), Fourier series, and eigenvectors and eigenvalues.

Electrical Engineering

I graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in spring 2013 with a B.S. in electrical engineering with a 3.48 GPA. I minored in biomedical engineering with a focus on diagnostic imaging and digital signal processing.

Very good, polite and flexible! — Kevin has been tutoring my daughter in pre-calc for several weeks, and he's really done a great job. She's doing a much better job and seems to finally grasp the material. Her test scores have improved by two letter grades! Kevin has also been very good about working around our hectic schedule! I appreciate his help immensely! ...
