My name is Peter J. V. and I'm a self-employed instructor who has taught one-on-one classes in a variety of disciplines, including music (guitar, bass, drums, piano), photography (Canon DSLR), videography (Final Cut), recording (Digital Performer), and writer/reader.
I have a BA in English from Ohio State University, served as a Sr. Technical Trainer for Qwest Communications (1997-2001) and have been self-employed since 2002.
I am also in the process of publishing my first book as well; it is a compilation of humorous short stories in the spirit of Dave Barry and David Sedaris.
Thank you for your time. I look forward to hearing from you soon!
I am an experienced songwriter who has written over 100 songs in a twenty-year period. My songs involve compositions on guitar, piano, vocals and lyrics, and in addition I've added various musicians to assist with the process. I have written and recorded 4 of my own CDs and produced them through my own company.
I have been an experienced, self-taught drummer since I was 14 years of age. I bought my first professional drum kit at the age of 16. I've played in over a dozen bands in my 30-year tenure, including Geffen Recording Artist The Toll (1983-1984). Currently I play a Ludwig Classic Butcher Block Drum Kit with a cover band. We play 3 to 4 times a month.
My first experience in General Music was music classes at Bishop Watterson HS. Since then, I've taught myself basic general music and composition theory with the help of a songwriter. I have taught one-on-one tutor classes for the past 12 years to students who either want to learn an instrument or want to write their own material. I've also taught the Alfred Series (piano, drums) and know the fundamentals of chord structures, key signatures, time signatures, scales (major and minor) and tempos.
I am a self-taught guitarist who's played over 30 years. I picked up guitar in college (1986) and have been teaching acoustic guitar to over 60 students in my 12 year tenure as a self-employed instructor. I can teach chords, scales, songwriting and theory, and prefer the use of lead sheets over tradition notation (Alfred) for learning guitar. I've also written two original CDs of songs based off guitar.
I've produced over 10 CDs of original music for myself and for clients over my 10-year history of working with Macintosh Computers. My experience in Digital Performer 4.6.1 has given me the ability to produce and record radio-quality music for the general public.
I've been a freelance photographer for the past five years. An avid Canon user, I have two Canon Digital SLRS (Canon Rebel and Canon 60-D) and use the cameras for photography and video work.
I've been playing piano longer than any other instrument. I took lessons from 2nd grade through 3rd grade, performed numerous recitals, and still give lessons to students of all ages. While I am an average sight reader and have taught the Alfred Series for years, my strength is playing by ear (Suzuki) or by lead sheet. That would be my preferred method of teaching.
I am am experienced songwriter with over twenty years of experience in writing, performing and recording original material. I've produced and recorded 4 of my own original CDs. Some of these songs are instrumentals, while others are songs with lyrics and vocals.
I am an experienced videographer and have recently expanded to that format in 2010. I purchased a Canon 60-D camera which does excellent photos and videos and purchased Final Cut software to perform editing on the footage I shot. I have my own Youtube page where I shoot for local bands, create my own photography videos (using my own music) and even produced a full-length documentary film about the Columbus Music Scene. The film is called "Indie."
