Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Career Development

I have 15 years of experience working for Arizona State University as a Sr. Associate in the Women and Applied Science and Engineering Program and various other on-campus K-12 STEM education programs. I have worked with students to give them advice and direction about potential careers and how to gain internships. I also understand the current job market and can offer advice and suggestions regarding potential career paths and opportunities.

Need advice on resumes? the job market? writing personal statements for scholarships? applying for programs? and which career to choose? I have great info. on resume writing, getting internships, getting jobs in engineering and medical fields, choosing a college major, resume evaluation and critiques, interviewing, networking/mentoring, engineering programs and more!

Cello

Cello players of all ages!

I'm looking for nice, motivated young (or older) cellists that would like to take lessons and improve their skills! I have over 25 years of experience in this area, both as a private instructor and a professional player. My training was intensive with first chair players of the Boston and Philadelphia Orchestras. I have played with local groups including Mesa Symphony, Sun City Orchestra, Flagstaff Symphony, Musica Nova, and the Four Seasons Orchestra. I have also judged for several years for AZ Regionals as well as on music scholarship and contest pannels. I also play with a few local quartet groups to gig at weddings.

I like to teach fundamental skills, with emphasis on position, technique, music theory and the basics. Most of my students make it into regionals on their freshman year! Students learn to read music quickly and are able to be highly competitive in their school and extracurricular playing. Will teach beginner, intermediate and advanced students.

Study Skills

For the past 3 years, I have taught a class on study skills and techniques for freshman and sophomore students in the college of engineering at Ohio State. In this semester-long class, I give students pointers on best practices for completing their math, science, and engineering homework; where to find free tutoring and other resources; how to establish effective study groups and proven techniques to study for tests in complex and technical subject areas. My educational background includes the successful completion of two BS degrees in science areas and an MS degree in Bioengineering. I would like to help other students to work on their study skills to become successful in multiple subject areas.
