I have been a private tutor for seven years to preschool, elementary students, college students, and adults. I have been an ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) tutor for Westerville City Schools.
In addition to being a tutor, I am also an Educational Kinesiologist / Brain Gym Consultant and use integrative / developmental movements to improve students' performance and ease of learning. I have completed school for medical massage therapy and just took the state licensing exam administered by the Ohio Medical Board.
I have more than seven years experience in tutoring. My specialties are working with children K-2, and children and adults with developmental delays and autism.
I work with a variety of students whose native language is English as well as students from many other countries for whom English is a second language. My students include a preschooler with developmental delays, a Somali woman who was partially illiterate in her own language, and a corporate executive from Germany.
One of my students, Anne, was a second grader who received a negative interim report from school. She was a solid C student, and the teacher couldn't find a positive word to say about her. I used a kinsthetic method to teach spelling to her. By the end of the next reporting period, she had graduated to the challenge spelling group, earned an A in social studies, and received only one C. The teacher then had only positive things to say about her. I believe that because Anne learned she could do one thing well, she gained self-confidence and her success generalized into other areas.
We all have unique ways of learning. This is why I do my best to meet my students where they are and to maximize their natural learning styles. I also incorporate integrative / developmental movements into my teaching. These movements make learning easier and improvements are seen both in the tutored subject and also in other areas of the student's life.
