I specialize in tutoring students in science and math from K-12. I have raised four children of my own (three boys and one girl) and have always enjoyed helping them in their studies. I also have conducted teen Bible studies at the church I attended.

When I tutor a student I concentrate in the areas of the subject that the student has the most difficulty and sometimes it is necessary to start with the fundamentals and go forward from that point, whereas in other situations the fundamentals are understood, but applying them seems to be the biggest difficulty. Each student is different in their level of his or her learning ability. I adapt the tutoring session in such a way that can help the student the most.

I provide a hands-on method that may involve some homework and quizzes to determine the student's increased ability to understand the subject matter at hand. Input from the parents is encouraged beforehand to assist in addressing the areas of the subject matter that the student needs the most help. It is my intention to make a difference in the student's ability to understand the subject matter and to give the student a positive attitude of learning the subject matter. Math and science sometimes seems rather dry in the classroom, but if applied to our every day lives it can be more meaningful and actually fun.

I am a semi-retired engineer and have previously worked for American Electric Power Service Corporation for 29 years and for two architectural/engineering firms previously for 9 years. I have both a Bachelor and a Master of Science Degree in Engineering from The Ohio State University. I currently work part-time for the International Assessment Institute as a Chief Examiner providing certification and/or license exams to groups of individuals in various professions.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I have taught both Adult and Teen Bible Studies at the church I attended for 1 to 2 years. I also taught Adult Sunday School at the church I attended for five years. I have conducted evening Bible studies in my home off and on for over the last 40 years. I do have B.S and M.S. degrees in engineering, but no degree in theology.

Differential Equations

While completing my B.S. in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering I successfully completed a sequence of two courses in differential equations: Ordinary Partial Differential Equations and Vector Analysis & Complex Variables. I am comfortable in teaching this type of math in a classroom atmosphere or at a tutoring session.

Mechanical Engineering

I have a B.S. in Aero/Astronautical Engineering and a M.S. in Industrial & Systems Engineering; both curricula have some similar courses as Mechanical Engineering such as: engineering mechanics (Strength of Materials, Statics, Dynamics), thermodynamics, gasdynamics, engineering data analysis and operations research. I also have a background in HVAC analysis & design and energy conservation. I had some teaching experience while attending graduate school for my Master's Degree and have taught at summer workshops for teachers (K-12) on Energy Management.
