I have worked as a substitute teacher for a variety of school districts over the past several years, and I recently completed a Master in the Art of Teaching program at Muskingum University. Currently, I am looking for opportunities to work with students and help them better understand scientific ideas and experiments.

I studied biology at Muskingum University and spent a summer working on an independent research project. I later presented that project at an annual scientific meeting, and I spent a summer working as a field research assistant at a nature reserve in California. I have worked alongside scientists and have conducted scientific research. I am excited by the opportunity to share my insight and passion about science with students.

American History

Understanding American History requires understanding the United States in the context of world events occurring throughout the past two hundred years. Even through periods of "isolationism" the United States was affect by events in Europe and elsewhere, especially as the new nations developed international trading.

I completed classes in Colonial & Revolutionary America to 1788 and American History in college.

Biology is the study of life, and this encompasses a vast amount of topics and concepts. My expertise in biology ranges from cell structures to entire ecosystems. The theory of evolution links all these fields of study together into a meaningful whole. By studying the structure and function of various molecular components, organisms, and ecosystems, you will learn that life is continually evolving to meet the demands of the environment.

Ecology is a specific area in the field of biology. Ecological study is concerned with the relationships between organisms and the relationship between and organism and its environment. In ecology, you study the characteristics of entire populations, not just individual animals, so you might study something like reproductive rate or density on a particular habitat type. Applied ecological theory addresses conservation issues, and important component in any ecology discussion.

European History

Europe is not the center of the world, but the influence of Europe over the rest of the world has been significant throughout history. Understanding the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and the Industrial Revolution helps us understand how the ancient world transitioned to the modern world. Lastly, our world today is shaped significantly by the two world wars fought during the 20th century.

I completed two classes of world history in college. As a personal hobby, I regularly read books on historical topics.

To make sense of what we hear in the news, we need to understand the geography of the world. This is not just memorizing the names of countries and capitals... we need to learn on a deeper level the reasons why the boarders are drawn the way they are on our maps. We need to learn how different cultures view the world differently than ourselves.

Besides the history classes I have completed throughout college, I read a variety of books and follow several blogs related to the topics of history and geography.

Geology Rocks! While there are many living things on the earth, few people take time to consider all the non-living things that make up our planet: rocks, minerals, water, soil--the subject of geology. Yet geology is more than just memorizing types of rocks. You learn about all the processes that are responsible for creating volcanoes and earthquakes, for providing us with the water we drink, and for creating and shaping the countryside that we farm.

I completed the following classes during college: World of Islam, Asian Religions and Philosophies, Jesus and the New Testament, Biblical Backgrounds, Old Testament Literature, and New Testament Greek.

In addition, I worked for a Christian outreach organization for two years after college. I am familiar with the basic beliefs of major world religions, and I am especially knowledgeable about Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.
