I have taught in the Illinois public schools for 15 years and am an accomplished performing musician. In addition, I have taught Language Arts and Social Studies as well as English composition. I work for the company that grades the ISAT and am familiar with the primary curriculum.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have taught elementary students for 15 years. I taught reading and language arts and subbed in math, science, and social studies. I have high expectations but use a variety of materials and methods to keep kids engaged.

General Music

I have a masters in music education and have taught general music for many years. I try to provide a balanced curriculum focusing on singing skills.

Voice (Music)

I have taught voice for a number of years. I am an accomplished performer in a variety of styles and can teach a variety of styles including classical, jazz, pop, country and simply vocal technique. I have a master's in music education and sing mezzo soprano, but feel comfortable coaching any voice type. Vocal students need to be no younger than 12 or one risks damaging a young voice. That is true of any student and if a teacher tells you otherwise, please investigate.

Violin

I have taught violin for a number of years. I have developed a teaching system that uses colors to help the student connect the strings to notes. I teach beginning violin as well as viola and cello.

Cello

I have taught cello for a few years. I am a music teacher with a Master's degree and though Cello is not my first instrument, I would feel comfortable teaching a beginner.

Flute

I have played flute for more than 30 years and have taught beginning flute for many years. Private lessons are a way of starting your student with good fundamentals.

Clarinet

I have taught beginning band instruments for several years. I teach and play clarinet and can teach students through high school age. I live in Galva, but can travel to your home for lessons. Private lessons can get your student started right or give them the edge on the competition.

Cooking

Food is the spice of life and cooking is both an art and a science. Simple savory recipes to complicated pastries can be taught and embellished upon to make wonderful dishes your family will love. I have a background as a home cook, but I love to cook a variety of genres and ethnic foods and can teach anyone to make delicious food for themselves or their family.
