American History

I enjoy teaching American History because I am a proud American. American History develops an appreciation of our shared heritage and the opportunities of living in the United States. Studying our history makes a person aware of the freedom and responsibility of being a citizen. A knowledge of US History provides an understanding of our political system and helps us become better participants in it.

European History

I approach teaching European History by balancing subject content and developing skills. I enjoy teaching European History because it is visual and auditory and any student can discover a topic of interest. The content of the class is interesting, with fascinating people and conflicts. I make the subject interesting by demonstrating how the subject is relevant in the student's life.

Geography

I believe that globalization Geography has become more important. The knowledge of the distribution of resources and people is necessary in understanding the world economy and American foreign policy. In a deeper sense, Geography allows a person to develop a connection between themselves and the environment. This allows for a basis for learning about and making an informed decision on such matters as global warming.

Government & Politics

Government and politics is exciting because people can examine and express their opinions on different topics. It investigates such questions as "What is and should be the role of government in our lives?", "How can I influence the government?", and "How are political parties different and alike?".

Studying government and politics develops decision making skills by studying how governments and government officials make choices. The subject is an opportunity to learn communication and debate skills in the context of law making and elections.

Regents

I am able to tutor students in Global and U.S. History. I have worked in summer school at New Rochelle High School. I was responsible for preparing students in the content and skills necessary for passing the Global Regents exam. As a tutor I have sucessfully assisted students in studying for A.P. and Regents exams. I have proctored the Regents exams. My experience with the content and testing conditions of the Regents exam are why I am qualified to tutor the subject.

Social Studies

I received an anthropology degree at Stony Brook University. I received a Masters in Secondary Education Social Studies at Iona College.
I taught Ninth Grade Social Studies in the summer school at New Rochelle High School. I have instructed Social Studies classes of different grades and ability levels, from elementary school students to AP students.

I use my sense of humor, patience and a positive attitude to inspire students. I want to share my interest in history with you.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Study Skills

Education is more than just content. Students have access to information from many sources. Students have to be able to learn and use this information and study skills enable a student to do this.

I learned study skills from my experience as a student. I tried different methods to help me study and discovered which techniques were effective. My education classes showed me more study skills and how to teach them.I found literary skills the most interesting. I learned more about study skills in my special education classes, which taught me about teaching executive functioning skills, such as metacognition.

I enjoy teaching study skills because they help students in and out of school. Students who develop study skills such as time management are able to better balance academics and social activity. I believe that since study skills can help students be more successful they help students become more confident.

World History

I have taught Global Studies 1 in summer school at New Rochelle. I used engaging hands-on activities to help students master content and develop their social studies skills. I concentrated on critical thinking and analyzing historical documents. I make the class relevant by discussing historical trends and demonstrating how the contributions of ancient civilizations are important to modern society.
