Most of my teaching and tutoring is done based on the language learning theories which support oral presentation of language, demonstration (using Total Physical Response, for example), and [lastly]practice. According to Vygotsky (the famous linguist)one should build on whatever exists and develop the skill(s) from there. Hence, I teach cognitively; otherwise, pupils do not learn as easily and as smoothly as they should. Remember: learning is fun or, at least, it should be!
I have been tutoring people for twenty one years. I have tutored from K-College and all my students have always done better than the "best students," during their tests and examinations. It has been a great satisfaction, for me, to see that my students are always the best of the best. I hope to continue to do whatever is necessary (as long as it is legal, moral, and ethical) to help people achieve their academic goals (children, adults, and "older" students).
One thing to keep in mind is that students should not only be taught what they need to learn. They should also be taught how to learn it and how to analyze the "material," so they can find the "answer" on their own. And, this is what I do. God Bless!
