Algebra 1

Any science, engineering or technology discipline requires a sound foundation in mathematics. I took the Integrated Algebra (formerly "Math A") Regents when I was still in middle school and scored very well. I have earned exceptional grades on the Math Regents exams, the AP Calculus Exam and SAT I Math and SAT II Math tests. I have been directly tutoring algebra for 2.5 years.

Algebra 2

I took algebra 2 in high school, back when it was known as Math B. On the Regents exam, I scored 99% and went on to score a 760 out of 800 on the Math II Subject SAT. I can help you understand imaginary numbers, trigonometry, normal distributions, combinatorics, functions, geometry, and graphs. I been using many of the concept in algebra 2 in other courses such as circuits, electronics and physics.

C++

I taught myself C++ before I began college. I knew that one of the courses that I would take my first semester was going to be in programming C++ and OOP so I took it upon myself to learn the material before the semester began. With some background in Java, the transition was smooth and I was able to pick up the most essential topics before I ever took the class.

From the course, I mastered basic syntax, data types, functions, the heap, and (most importantly) classes. We went in depth with inheritance, encapsulation and polymorphism. I can help you with your first steps in the language all the way to making object oriented programs and the like.

Computer Engineering

I've been immersed in Computer Engineering since High School. It's what I've wanted since I was young and I've come a long way since then.

I have a lot of experience with the many layers of a computer. From the very bottom, I've taken courses in electrical circuits, electronics, digital logic and computer architecture. On the upper half, I've taken courses in Operating Systems, Programming, web development, databases, data structures and algorithms. My major GPA is a 4.0.

I'm very enthusiastic about what I've learned and am eager to help you in this subject from circuits to programs and everywhere in between.

Computer Programming

I have been programming since I was in high school and have taken programming classes almost every year since then. At the moment, I know nearly a dozen different programming languages including those for applications (C++/Java) and web development (HTML/JS/PHP).

I am not limited to what I've learned in school, as many of the languages I know are self-taught. In the past, I was a programming intern at the NYSE and worked in web development for a NYC start-up company. Programming and Engineering courses are some of my favorite courses to tutor because I am very passionate about the subject matter.

Computer Science

At Brooklyn Tech, I did a concentration in Computer Science which was where I first learned about programming, databases and the web. I had the highest concentration GPA in my graduating class and earned the Gold Medal in CS.

In college, as a Computer Engineering student I took many courses in CS including Object Oriented Programming, Data Structures, databases and Operating Systems. I have several years of experience programming in many languages such as C++, Java and PHP.

I am currently working as a software developer, learning new technologies every day and would love to share my knowledge with anyone willing to learn.

Electrical Engineering

In college I took several electrical engineering undergrad and graduate courses as part of my Computer Engineering curriculum. I have taken courses in Electric Circuits (both AC and DC), Electronics (concerning semiconductors like diodes and transistors), Very Large Scale Integrated Circuits (VLSI), Communication Networks, Analog Circuits and even theoretical courses in nanoelectronics. Understanding fundamental concepts of electricity and physics is a core part of understanding computers.

Elementary Math

I have been tutoring a group of elementary school students every week for the past several years and math is one of the topics that we cover every session. As an engineer, I of course have a robust foundation in mathematics, but I also have a knack for explaining difficult concepts from a high level and using examples to illustrate my point. I teach students how to decipher word problems, break down complex operations into smaller pieces and how to use models to help them find solutions.

Whether they are struggling with fractions, decimals or pre-algebra topics, I can help your child master the material, gain confidence and enjoy math!

General Computer

Although our world is fairly connected and computers run just about everything, there are still people who don't know how to use them! There's a wealth of knowledge out there that can help anyone. Computers are essential to maintaining communication, learning new skills or even for a little recreation.

Do you want to learn how to use a computer, but are not sure where to begin? This is where I can help you. I can walk you through the basic steps from setup to daily use. I am well versed, in operating systems (Windows, Linux), word processing, email, web browsing and so much more. As a computer engineering major, I know my way around and can help you find your way as well. Learning how to use a computer can be one of the most rewarding skills you can have.

Java

Java was the first programming language I learned back in high school. Since then, I've used it for coursework in college and at previous jobs. I have a strong foundation in object oriented programming (OOP), problem solving and data structures. In particular with Java, I understand classes, inheritance, and interfaces. I also have experience with GUI elements and database applications.

Logic

I've been working in the logic domain since I was in high school. My first exposure was when I began programming. Computer programming requires implementing an algorithm in the particular language one is programming in and this requires understanding the fundamental logic in conditional statements (if statements, while loops, etc.). I began working much more in depth in logic when I took a course in Digital Electronics where we designed digital circuits that took user input and generated an output based on complex combinational circuits. I ranked #1 consistently in the class exams and in the class overall. I am extremely well versed in Logic gates, combinational and sequential circuits.

In college, as part of my Computer Engineering required courses, I took Digital Logic. This class was an extension on the Digital Electronics course I took in High School. As part of the course, we designed a control unit and data path for a game on a chip, which required hours of simulation and logic design. I did very well on class exams and earned an A in the course. Currently, I am a tutor for Digital Logic and Computer Architecture in school and all of my students are extremely satisfied with my knowledge as well as my ability to pass that knowledge to them.

Microsoft Excel

I have been using Excel extensively for the past few years and know my way around very well. On an everyday basis, I use spread sheets to keep track of my finances as well as make simple lists for projects. When I took an undergraduate Physics Laboratory course, I used MS Excel heavily to calculate figures and write up reports. I was responsible for making sure I accurately computed complex values from calculus equations, as well as making error analyses and presenting the data in aesthetically pleasing tables, charts and graphs. If you need help with learning how to use MS Excel for everyday purposes or academic reports, I'm the tutor for you!

Microsoft PowerPoint

Throughout my years in college I made countless presentations for projects and assignments using PowerPoint. I can help you create excellent technical presentations to highlight your progress or explain your new ideas to a group. I can teach you the basics such as how to manipulate slides and add/move content, as well as advanced topics like animations, templates and media.

Microsoft Windows

I've been using the Windows Operating system since I was in elementary school and our family bought our first computer. Now as an engineer, I'm on my PC for hours every day. If you are new computers and are looking to learn the basic ins and outs of how to operate your machine, I can teach how to get started with setting up email accounts, web browsing and word processing with the world's most widely used OS. We can also dive deeper by checking for errors, installing various programs and customizing your UI to fit your needs. I am familiar with Windows XP, Vista and 7.

Microsoft Word

I've been using MS word for many years to write papers, lab reports and projects. I have experience using every version of Word from 1997 to 2013. As a tutor I can show you how to use Word for everything from simple formatting to writing complex mathematical formulas and everything in between. I am well versed with editing layouts, using graphics and inserting objects from other applications like MS Excel or MS PowerPoint. If you need to learn about MS Word, I am the tutor for you!

PHP

I've been programming in PHP since I was in high school. It is by far, my favorite language. It's not strictly typed which makes it easy to learn even for novice programmers and the syntax is fairly intuitive. What makes PHP most attractive to me is how easily it can be integrated into websites to make dynamic pages that can interact with users.

I've programmed in PHP for school like I said and also used it during my time as a programmer at the New York Stock Exchange. No other language integrates as well with MySQL as PHP does, and so I've also learned a great deal about databases through the language. I even use PHP programs for personal use such as when I want to create worksheets for tutoring students. I am familiar with syntax, variables, scope, functions, databases and AJAX. If you're having trouble with PHP or just need someone to guide you through, I'm the one for you!

Prealgebra

As an engineer, I have a strong foundation in mathematics up to calculus. It goes without saying that this includes a mastery of lower level math including algebra and prealgebra. I have several years of experience tutoring prealgebra with my elementary and middle school students, where I've honed my communication skills and ability to explain convoluted problems in an easy-to-understand manner. Before I went to high-school I had already taken the Algebra Regents. I have earned excellent scores on all my math Regents, AP exams and SAT math tests.

Regents

The Regents exams test a student's knowledge of concepts and applications for a course and are given for many high school subjects in New York State. Grades on these exams are an important way to show mastery of material whether it is in Math, Science or History.

With my Advanced Regents Diploma from Brooklyn Technical High School, I can help you understand the test, the questions and the answers. I've scored above 90% on Math A, Math B (now known as Algebra I and II respectively), Physics, US History, Global History, English and Spanish Regents Exams. My specialties are Math and Physics.

SAT Math

SAT math isn't about memorizing formulas or equations. It isn't about knowing complex mathematical concepts. More than anything else, it tests your ability to think!

I've taken multiple SAT practice exams and consistently scored very high on the math section. On the official exam I scored 760 out of 800. SAT math covers mostly algebra and geometry problems, including some that involve logic (one of my favorite subjects). No calculus, advanced statistics or anything like that!

I can help you understand the questions, find a solution and get in the minds of the guys that make the exam. The SAT is all about approaching the problem from the most efficient point of view and not falling for traps along the way. As student who's taken his fair share of exams, I know what to focus on and where people need the most help.

SQL

I've been using SQL since I first learned it in high school. I used it in my senior project to manage a database that interacted with a user to provided requested information. Later, when working at the NYSE, I used it almost everyday to write and maintain scripts that checked for database integrity and generated reports. When working at an internship at a start-up, I used SQL as one of many tools to improve the responsiveness and interactivity of the company's website.

Most recently, I took a formal course in databases at my university where we studied database design, SQL and query efficiency in detail. My final project relied heavily on SQL and was a mock social networking web application. I am familiar with integrating SQL with PHP and Java. I find databases in general to be a very interesting topic.
