District Coordinator for a Property Management Company by day, Artist and jewelry maker by night. I'll be honest, my strengths are in the creative fields, so tutoring math, probably won't work. But I am a graduate from FIT, The Fashion Institute of Technology @ SUNY. My AAS degree is in textile design with a specialization in screen printing and my personal favorite, weaving. Since then I've received a BA in communications and culture from the School of Professional Studies at CUNY. During the day I help manage 18 (and counting) properties from Long Island to New Jersey. At night I'm teaching myself how to make beaded jewelry. I'm also an avid reader and never far from my kindle. I can help with reading, writing, basic computers, Microsoft Word and Excel, in addition to drawing and painting.
A personal note, for my mother's 50th birthday I created centerpieces for the tables by taking a painting that I did of a rose (my mother's favorite painting of mine), made copies of it, mounted it on foam core and then placed the copies on miniature painting easels on each table. Let me help you or your child nurture their creative side.
I graduated from Fashion Institute of Technology with a degree in Textile and Surface Design. I am familiar with a number of different mediums. I also know a few techniques that sound weird but have helped me draw better. Example, if you're sketching an object in front of you, focus only on the object, not on what your hand is drawing on the paper. Follow the lines with your eyes, follow the curves and let your hand draw while your eyes move over it. This will help you get the shape of the object down, then you can go back in and add the details. It's hard to get used to, but a wonderful technique once you've tried it a few times.
My experience with Dyslexia comes from helping my younger sister with her school work. She is dyslexic and also has processing issues. I am also mildly dyslexic and understand that it isn't easy when a student learns differently. To my mind, the best experience is personal experience.
I was a baby sitter for many years when I was younger. I would help my kids who were elementary grade level with their homework and studies. I am comfortable with this age group and they tend to respond to me well.
I've had to use Excel at a number of jobs. I'm pretty much self-taught as it wasn't a requirement when I was in school. I can help you navigate the spread sheets in Excel.
I hold an AAS degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology in Textile and Surface design. I was also a paid intern at DuPont Fashion and Fibers while in school. Once I graduated I spent the next 5 or 6 years in the fashion and home furnishing industry. I am familiar with a number of different mediums and genres of art with still life, weaving and jewelry making being my favorites.
I struggled with finding the right study methods for me. I know how hard it can be. I believe that I can help my students figure out what works best for them. I can and will encourage them to make those study techniques a habit that they can stick with for the length of their school career.
