My name is Stacy. For the past 15 years I have primarily focused on advocating and helping my three children, all of whom have special needs. I have a masters degree in education with certification in early childhood and students with disabilities, as well as a masters degree in psychology that I obtained before my children were born.
During the course of my education I have discovered that I really enjoy working one on one with both children and adults. I approach tutoring by motivating students by making learning fun as well as finding out what works best for each student. People learn in many different ways and, rather than using one particular method, I customize my teaching to each student’s unique needs. For example, with younger students, I use manipulative tools and other hands-on experiences in order to help make challenging concepts real to them. During graduate school I frequently tutored other students in my program and found that I was very effective in helping adults as well. My teaching strength is being able to break down complicated concepts and help students use examples and real life connections in order to better remember and understand what they are learning.
