My name is Stacey and I am 27 years old. Since my graduation from the University of Rochester in 2011, I have worked for the Rush-Henrietta, Webster, and Churchville-Chili school districts. I have a Master's degree in Secondary English
Education as well as Special Education. My undergraduate degree is in English.
One of my favorite quotes on teaching is, "Teaching is a transitive verb." This means that as teachers, we don't just teach our subject, we teach our subject TO our students. Students are the key to teaching so it is only right that their learning needs are at the forefront. Learning should be challenging, satisfying, authentic and long-lasting. Schools don't always fit every student and some parts of succeeding in school (like standardized tests) are enough to make any student miserable. Fortunately, there is always a way to get through with the right attitude, strategies and support. Everyone deserves a good education, and a good experience getting it.
As a tutor, I always begin by getting to know a student, both as a person and a learner. Knowing a student's passions outside of school allows me to connect with and understand the student and build a trust that allows me to know them as a learner and help them overcome their struggles. No matter what the ultimate goal is for the student, I always start where they are comfortable because the most learning takes place when a person is is confident, rather than overwhelmed.
I have worked with students in a classroom of 25, individually and everywhere in between, but I always consider each student as a unique person with unique learning needs. I would love the opportunity to tutor your child and offer them the same experience.
