I do not believe that any person should be denied an education or an opportunity to better themselves for any reason. Every person should have access to the help they need or deserve, and it is certainly unfair that someone already well off has the ability to give themselves an additional edge. For this reason I am willing to negotiate rate for those in tighter financial situations. If this applies to you please do not be afraid to ask, especially if it is for your child. Whatever circumstances a child finds themselves in are completely out of their control, and I do not wish for them to be at any disadvantage because of their situation in life. I have a passion for teaching and truly wish to help those in need.
I am an Eagle Scout and 4th year PhD student at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) studying Materials Science and Engineering. I also earned my B.S. from RPI graduating Cum Laude. As an undergraduate I was a member of the Materials Science honors society, Alpha Sigma Mu and a brother of Alphi Phi Omega, a community service fraternity. As an engineer my curriculum was heavy in math and sciences.
Being a student and TA, I believe that I offer a unique perspective compared to "professional" tutors. As a student, I am able to relate to other students and determine what makes a subject or concept difficult. I understand what methods of conveying a concept seem to be confusing and ineffective on the receiving end and frequent discussion with other students about class materials also enables me to find many different ways to explain the same concept. My experience as a TA has taught me to effectively and confidently communicate in a way that seems to inspire a fundamental understanding. Feedback from students and parents has been highly positive.
