Hello, my name is Kasey.

I have a bachelor's degree in History Education and have substituted for three years. I am already certified to teach social studies 5th grade through 12th. I like to do hands-on lessons. I am not one to believe in just lecturing the student but rather I get them involved with the content they are trying to learn. One of the first things I will try to do is to see what kind of learner the student is. Be it visual, verbal, kinesthetic or the many other types of learning there are. I am energetic and try to make learning fun, I am full aware that many times the reason the student is not picking up on the content is because it does not interest them. I want to make history interesting!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Basketball

I have played basketball, helped coach basketball and gone to many basketball camps. I have been playing since elementary school all the way through my four years in college.

Regents

I am trained to teach towards a regents. I know how to have students study for them be it math or social studies though my strong suit is English, Social Studies and Biology. The best way to study for a regents is to know how to dissect the questions. There is very little way that a student will be able to know everything that is on the test. Therefore it is important for a student to be able to look at a question and pull the clues that are there out of the question to assist them in answering it.

Soccer

I played soccer through out my life from 3rd grade all the way up to my fourth year in college. I have volunteered coaching as well. Also I have played indoor soccer so I am well versed in the different ways of playing soccer.

Social Studies

I am certified by New York state to teach Social Studies from grades 5th to 12th. I also have my BS degree in History Education.

Track & Field

I played track through out my high school career as well as all four years I was in college. I was a sprinter and a long jumper. I go back to my high school and assist in the track team.

I have talked to a few parents who have asked me this question, "Why is my son/daughter doing so poorly on tests but when they do the homework they seem to grasp the concept just fine?" This question pops up so frequently when the students are starting to tackle the regents. The answer is fairly simple, they get test anxiety. They know all the information but they are so stressed... read more
