I hold a master's degree from NYU in Spanish and ESL (English as a Second Language) Education and have experience teaching introductory through advanced levels. Having taught various levels and ages, I am qualified to adjust lessons to the needs of the individual and modify activities accordingly.
I have honed my own Spanish language skills through rigorous coursework and further developed fluency by spending extensive time in Spanish speaking countries every year, studying, working, and traveling. In undergrad, I participated in a two semester study in Spain. After graduating, I worked for eight months in Merida, Venezuela, where I taught ESL at an institute of languages and international studies.
Currently, I am teaching Spanish at a prestigious private middle school in Westchester county. I also have experience teaching high school Spanish to 9th-12th graders. Curriculum and lesson plans I design align to NY state standards and material covered in different districts. Units devised are content-rich, incorporating history, culture, literature and art, integrated with grammar in the target language.
I am extremely dedicated to my students and will cater to the needs of my tutee. On a side note, in addition to my passion for the Spanish language and culture, I enjoy dancing, singing, and anything outdoors, especially running and hiking! I hope to learn more about you or your child and coordinate a time to begin mastering areas of weakness!

While attending graduate school at New York University, I enrolled in courses that focused on grammar and linguistics. Additionally, as a Spanish and ESL teacher, I have taught several grammatical points to my students.
Part of the role as an educator is proofreading and editing student papers. I have created a guide by using codes to represent errors and areas that need development. This way, my students can review my edits and correct them independently.
As a language instructor, I help my students with decoding and making connections between sound and symbols. With regards to comprehension, I teach them to first focus on words that they know in order to make meaning out of passages. Another helpful strategy is having my students annotate the text in their own words and retell the information.

Writing is a broad term and strategies vary depending on the type of writing piece, whether it be an expository essay, a persuasive sample, or a narrative. In general, text-to-self connections are important to encourage students to write about what they know and can relate to. Regarding more formal essays, I have my students create outlines, identifying the topic sentence and thesis statement, and then charting the supporting evidence.
