My tutoring service is based on the principle of quickly zeroing in on student's problems and explaining the material in accessible language calling on the student's experience. I involve the student to actively participate in the session, to the point that they do as much of the work as they are able, and are able to call upon their existing knowledge to figure out a new problem under my guidance. Thus, they are "invested" in the session and able to recall and utilize the principles that they themselves have helped uncover.
My students tell me that I am very efficient time-wise and that I am able to explain concepts in a simple way that they understand and are able to then independently employ in similar subject areas. And I see that they substantially increase their grades after starting tutoring with me.
I view tutoring as a challenge and an art that I like to excel in. I also view the various areas of math and physics and associated problems as puzzles that are fun to solve. I derive a great sense of accomplishment from successfully meshing the two spheres, the solving of the math/physics puzzle and involving the student in the exciting treasure hunt. Each student brings a different set of knowledge and understanding and it is a pleasure for me to employ their intrinsic capabilities and knowledge to bring to them ever more challenging problems and to increase their knowledge and understanding of the subject matter. And it is also a pleasure knowing that these skills will be useful to them in real life as well. For students preparing for SAT, Regents and other exams, I also like to set up a lesson plan with the student of what we'll go over.
I have been a substitute instructor in college and have done math and science tutoring while in college. At that point, I was twice nominated for tutor of the year by my students. Currently, I am a math adjunct instructor at Le Moyne College.
In my professional work as an engineer, every day I utilize the math and physics concepts that I teach in my tutoring sessions to solve real life problems.
I am really excited about showing you what I can do, whether you need just one session to go over a tough problem or concept, or a series of sessions, whether you're preparing for SAT, regents, other exams, or just need help in understanding how to do homework problems.
