I have served middle school to college-aged students as a professional educator since 2002. Specialization areas are Mathematics and English. My qualifications include NY State Teaching Certification, a Masters degree in Education, and undergraduate admissions experience in an Ivy league university.

Another important qualification is understanding links between adolescence and future careers. With insights gained while earning an MBA and doing business internationally (marketing & communications), I can tutor to your long-term strategic goals. I believe in real growth today for meaningful success in the future. My philosophy is to combine the best resources and practices from global education community, while tailoring every interaction to what a particular student needs. I am committed to getting results that matter to my clients and their children.

I know the pros and cons of many different learning approaches, and in addition to the needs of each individual child, I am sensitive to conditions at your children's school. My experience in alternative school systems (public, public charter, East Coast private, International Baccalaureate [IB], Japanese, and French) is relevant to getting families informed counsel on their education plan.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Chess

I studied first under my uncle and as an avid reader. I have coached high school and middle school chess clubs. My approach is to meet the individual pupil at what they know, give simple demonstrations at the next level, and make chess fun and useful. My most important qualification is extensive research on decision-making strategy and tactics during BA, MS Education, and MBA years.
