My name is Leo. I am 23 years old and recently graduated from SUNY Geneseo with a degree in Biochemistry and Mathematics in 2011. I currently work as a research and development chemist at Natures Bounty, and have previously performed organic chemistry and inorganic chemistry academic research, work which was published in a scientific journal.
Although I am a chemist by day, teaching is a passion of mine and I have done it for well over 5 years now. I have previously tutored everything from first and second grade reading - to college chemistry and mathematics - as well as every major science and math regents exam. I have also tutored math for the SAT and the GRE. At the earliest convenience, I plan to obtain my master's degree in education for integrated mathematics and science.
I am an exceptional tutor and have had an extremely high success rate with my students; they begin seeing improvements as early as after the first lesson! I have been told that I am able to put difficult topics into very easy language to understand - which is what I believe is the single most important aspect of being an educator.
I believe my success also comes from creating an environment where the student feels comfortable. Due to being comfortable, they listen attentively and really understand what is going on. I do not create a mandatory learning environment and force work upon my students. I try to think of fun and exciting lessons to get them engaged and interested. My student's don't just pass tests and homework, they understand the core concepts and I'm always looking for ways to teach them more to get to the highest possible level of comprehension. Being that I am young it is easier for them to relate to me, another attribute that makes a good educator. Not someone you have to listen to, someone you WANT to listen to.
I'm always looking for new teaching methods, and things to help supplement my student's learning. Tutoring has always, and will always be a passion of mine.
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask! Although I am young, and don't have a teaching degree, do not let that influence your decision. You will be pleased with the results. I look forward to working with you!
