My job as a tutor is to find the best methods that will help you reach your goals. With 10 years of experience teaching middle and high school English, you can be sure that I am prepared to help you be successful. I enjoy helping students become more confident and independent as their skills at being active readers, purposeful writers, and critical thinkers improve.
Throughout my career, I have sought opportunities to work with students who don't find reading or writing easy. I have taught remedial (AIS) English both at the high school and middle school level. I have taught summer school, where I lead a curriculum development team, and have tutored students one-on-one for more than half of my career. Over the years, I have worked with more than 2000 students from a dozen school districts in five counties in New York State. Part of my role as a classroom English teacher is to support students with disabilities: I am very comfortable working with students with and without disabilities, and with helping students to advocate for their needs.
In closing, while I bring a wealth of experience to tutoring, you won't receive a one-size-fits-all tutoring program from me. I have been successful -- becoming a NEH Scholar, being offered a Fulbright, and becoming certified to be a school leader -- because I have learned how to individualize lessons for each learner. If you need help preparing for a specific exam like the NYS English Regents or the AP Literature and Composition, or if you want to improve your reading or writing skills, your vocabulary or grammar, I can help you reach your goals.
