Language is a powerful tool that helps us succeed in life. Like Harry S. Truman said, "Not all readers are leaders, but all leaders are readers."
To help students develop a love for words, both spoken and written is what I am passionate about. I have helped students in the US and abroad acquire English reading and writing skills. As a student of English Literature in college, I worked as a tutor on campus and helped other students refine and upgrade their written assignments. These assignments ranged from simple essays to in-depth research papers. I have also worked with younger students in an after-school program where I helped them with reading as well as writing. I have been associated with teaching reading to students of ethnically diverse backgrounds. Children from exclusively non-English speaking cultures have been under my guidance for the past two years and I am proud to say that they have become very enthusiastic about learning English. I have conducted and led the first ever Reading Program in an emerging school in India. I helped set up the school central library as well as the class libraries.
My teaching methodology is simple: I work with each student by assessing their individual learning needs and academic requirements and accordingly customizing lessons. I work on the overall development of the language of the child - speaking, reading and writing - with time-tested methods. I have completed several Graduate level courses in Education and have over ten years of teaching experience in varied settings. My expectations of my students are high and I strive to help students produce error-free work. I believe that each child is capable of learning through practice and enjoying the beauty of words; all that is needed is the right guidance and timely intervention.
I encourage active student participation and value their feedback.
