"When The Student Is Ready, The Teacher Appears."
My name is Kelwyn.
I am a retired school teacher with more than twenty (20) years classroom-teaching experience.
I graduated from St. Stephen's College with a distinction in English. My other qualifications include English Literature, Spanish, French and Health Science.
Later, I graduated from Corinth Teachers College, earning a Teacher's Diploma, having succeeded in the undermentioned subjects:
Practical Teaching
Psychology & Sociology of Education
Principles & Practice of Education
Social Studies
English Language Studies
English Literary Studies
Elementary Mathematics
General Science
Physical Education (Elective).
At present, I tutor at my home, at public libraries, and at students' homes, depending on which is most convenient for you, the parent. I believe the teaching-learning experience is much more effective with one-on-one tutoring, instead of having a large group of students during the same session.
This way, the student receives that all-important individual attention, has freer expression, and is able to ask more questions etc, for his/her benefit. This environment also allows for greater discipline and much more teaching/learning therefore takes place. I am proudly 'old-school' in the sense that I believe in allowing a child freedom, with a clear understanding that 'freedom' does not mean indiscipline or disrespect.
I have successfully taught many students, who are now grown up and have children of their own. Whenever we meet, they always remind me of their earlier days under my tutorship. They compliment and thank me for being so patient, and for trying so hard to provide them with the education they deserved.
This keeps me highly motivated and reassures me that I am indeed on the correct path. I eagerly look forward to working with you, and sharing my experiences and passion for education.
One of my most memorable moments as a tutor was the day when a fourth grader told me during the middle of a tutoring session:
"Mr. K., I'm going to tell my mom that I want to be home-schooled."
I was so absolutely touched by his appreciation of my efforts, and by his preparedness to have me become his full-time teacher. I continue to learn a lot about myself and my personal energy, as I work to encourage children to bring out the greatness that is hidden within them all. Peace.
