Studying is work and preparing assignments is often boring and tedious because the subject is not inherently interesting to us or because the way the subject is presented is not interesting to us. How do we make those texts and assignments into something we want to learn? Most people agree that actually learning something is fun and yes, interesting, but the process of getting there is so often a huge obstacle, frustrating, exasperating, and sometimes even makes us want to give up.
I have a Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, a Master of Business Administration focusing on Healthcare Administration, a Master of Divinity degree in Interfaith Studies and studied psychology and anthropology. This speaks to my varied educational experience. I've taught medical billing, medical coding, and transcription to adults; I've been a youth counselor and advisor and religious educator for many years. I enjoy learning and have faced the frustrations associated with learning, also. In the business world, I have been a team member, a team leader, a business owner and a consultant to those in healthcare. I've worked in the cosmetics industry as a salesperson. I've had an art career where my work has been shown and sold in New York City, and so I share a creative spirit. I've had a short stint in the publishing business working as a proofreader for a small publishing company. All these work and life experiences give me a creative, versatile and expansive foundation with which to help you see and overcome challenges.
It is important to remind ourselves that we are smart, capable people with talents and uniquely great assets. We can learn about things that interest us. We can learn and do anything if we can find a way to make it interesting and to break down the confusion or complexity that makes a subject seem overwhelming. I'm interested in making that happen for you. I look forward to learning about what you are interested in and what you enjoy. I look forward to taking that challenge you're having and seeing how we can make it less of an obstacle and more of an opportunity for your future. Let's break it down, let's get the frustration out, let's see if we can take that road block and make it into a memory of how you came to succeed. It will make me happy to see you gain another reason to make yourself proud!
When we get together, I would like to know what your challenges are, how you feel about them and where you would like to go with this obstacle. Together we will find a way to see what the problem is, break it down, and maybe take a step back and see it in a different way. After we get a good perspective on what we're learning, we can break the concept down to step by step ideas until you get it ! Patience with yourself and help to gain and maintain a positive attitude is key to learning when you're facing a challenge. After that, taking the problem or concept a piece at a time until it is all absorbed is important.
I will have or obtain all kinds of multimedia aids and will have or develop or find different ways of explaining just about any problem you can bring to me. So, let's get together, get the problem on the table, learn about you and how great you are, and then we'll see what there is to know about this problem, then break it down, look at it in different and hopefully more exciting ways, and then master it!
