Hello! Thank you for taking time to view my tutoring profile. I am a stay-at-home wife and mother of two with more than 10 years of tutoring and instructional experience. During my training, I obtained initial NYS teaching certification in two areas: secondary math instruction and instruction for working with students with disabilities. Although these certifications expired as of August 2014, I have continued to keep my training in these areas current by remaining up-to-date on the latest NYS standards and education techniques and providing tutoring services to students of many different ages and backgrounds. In addition to my certification training, I have a BA and MSEd degree in math education. My educational training has provided me with many opportunities to work as a teacher in middle school and high school classroom environments. Now, I work as a math tutor for students who experience difficulty understanding math as it applies to math classes and related fields (i.e.- understanding how to apply algebra skills in a career in landscaping).
My professional experiences have prepared me to instruct a wide variety of individuals. While working as a New York State certified substitute math teacher and as an academic coach at Encompass Resources in Rochester, NY, I often worked with students who found math to be challenging, including students with learning disabilities such as ADD, ADHD, autism, and other disabilities that can impair learning. As I was earning my degrees, I worked as a math tutor for other college students who were having difficulty understanding the math required for them to be successful in one or more of their college classes. During this time, I also served as the instructor of a math review class for adult learners preparing to take their New York State pesticide licensing exam. My most recent tutoring experiences have come through the operation of my own private tutoring company, PS Tutoring.
From my experiences working with students of all ages, I have come to believe that anyone is able to learn and use math. Even students who struggle with math can achieve success in it through guided practice, persistence, and frequent evaluation of progress. My objective as a tutor is to provide students with the extra academic support and guidance that they need to achieve their math goals and the skills they need to apply that math in their chosen field.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

My experience with Algebra 1 curriculum includes working as an in-class tutor in an Algebra 1 classroom, co-teaching an Algebra 1 class for 1 year during my undergraduate training, and working with many students in an official and unofficial capacity to help them prepare for their Algebra 1 Regents Exams.
I have taught Algebra 2 & Trigonometry for 2 years and have tutored many students in this subject. As such, I am very familiar with all of the content that is taught throughout this class. I am also very familiar with the common topics that are tested on the Algebra 2 & Trigonometry NYS Regents Exam. As part of my undergraduate work in the math program at Nazareth College, I completed a course in Differential Equations. I passed the class with a high A. I also passed the differential equations portion of my comprehensive exam as part of earning my BA in mathematics.
I have more than 10 years of experience tutoring math, and while my training focuses on high school mathematics, I enjoy working with children of all ages. I also have experience tutoring elementary mathematics, starting in Grade 5. As part of my undergraduate work in the math program at Nazareth College, I completed a course in Linear Algebra. I passed the class with an A. I also passed the linear algebra portion of my comprehensive exam as part of earning my BA in mathematics.
I have taken several courses that require the use of philosophical and mathematical logic as part of my undergraduate course requirements. Among these classes were an introductory logic course (philosophy) and a proof-writing math class. I did very well (high As) in both classes, and have experience tutoring other college students in philosophical logic as well as understanding mathematical logical processes.
I have taught in all three high school math courses that have a NYS regents exam: Algebra 1 (Integrated Algebra), Geometry, and Algebra 2 & Trigonometry.
