Having a Bachelor's Degree, Magna Cum Laude, in History I have been coaching, giving private lessons, and teaching in different levels for the last 6 years. As an enthusiast in music performance and history, with some background in other areas, I have enjoyed helping young people find a passion for learning. The style I use is very interactive, showing the students that the information is there for them to grasp and utilizing their own strengths and weaknesses to help them achieve mastery. This method is my favorite and is typically suited toward older children, grades 7 and up, though I am able to work and modify the methods I use for younger children. Utilizing a question/answer and conversational method, students gain both factual and contextual comprehension of the material, which also builds principled learning strategies that they can take and use in other aspects of life.
I have coached teams of teens in an academic quiz focusing on specific material, one team placing fifth out of 13 teams, having never had any previous experience in the competition. I have studied American history and politics for more than a decade, striving to maintain personal study even when not in a scholastic setting. As a musician I have been playing the trombone for almost 20 years, and I am capable on most brass instruments. I have rudimentary skills on the piano, and I have been singing for 23 years, having also coached a young lady to a first place finish in a regional vocal competition.
