Hello interested students! I am an undergraduate student at NYU, a graduate of a prestigious high school (Stuyvesant High School) and an experienced SAT and Regents tutor. I have a firm and patient teaching style, as I find this is most effective in teaching students, especially in regards to preparing them for standardized tests. Students can expect to have a relaxed environment in which questions are encouraged and practice is at the forefront. This will to allow the student to learn and master the subject. I work at the pace required for the student, adjusting for each style of learning. At the same time, the student will be required to have a serious attitude. Work I prepare as a sort of homework for the students (the amount adjusted according to the students' available free time), is one of the best teaching tools I have used or have learned from and will be part of the students' experience with me. I find that this allows students to gain experience and practice in the subject such that they can perform well alone. It also allows me to gauge their abilities and review material that they are having trouble in.

Experience:

As a participant in after school services at the Arab American Family Support Center in Downtown Brooklyn, I often engaged with younger students having trouble in subjects and test preparation I had experience in. I also experienced many different styles of tutoring as a student, in groups and 1-on-1, that have informed my teaching philosophy.

In 2011, as a junior in high school, I was given the opportunity to tutor an 8th grade student in Regents Integrated Algebra. Over the course of 6 months, the student gained 8 points on a 0-100 scale in his grades, performing highly on the Regents exam and later exams in the class after having started as a below-average to average student. Through out the experience I adjusted my practices, leading to an overall improvement in his grades and a change in attitude about the subject. The change in attitude was something I am very proud about as someone who loves math and has a passion for this subject. I continued to tutor him into my senior year, but had to leave due to a busy schedule.

During the summer of 2012, I was employed with Khan's tutorial as a SAT and Regents tutor for all subjects. This experience allowed me to engage with students of all ages and work with students preparing for the SATs.

As a freshman in college, my work study job was working as a teacher's assistant at a local middle school. I assisted a math and science teacher of 6th graders in checking work, answering students' questions, helping create classroom materials, and doing busywork. I learned about the classroom environment, how to engage with younger students, especially students with major difficulties, and how to create learning materials for younger students that are fun and engaging. I also gained a perspective on teaching for students preparing for standardized testing through the classroom.

Over the past two years, I have tutored 3 students in high school math Regents subjects, two elementary students in all subjects, tutored a student for the SATs, and tutored a number of students for short term test preparation. I currently tutor two elementary students, another student in trigonometry, and another student preparing for the PSAT.

I am excited to teach those committed to bettering their general SAT and Regents subject skills. I hope to help students achieve their goals.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Regents

I was a Regents tutor at a private tutoring center for all subjects. I tutored for an 8th grade student in integrated Algebra, as explained in my information. I have a Regents diploma and have received high grades on the Regents and classes of those Regents subjects.

I will tutor those interested in Regents tutoring on a case by case basis, considering the fact that I specifically prefer teaching Math and English subjects.
