Hi! My name is Julie.

I have been working in archaeology for the past 6 years both in academia and in cultural resource management. My background includes 8 years of archaeological field experience while earning my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in anthropology and historical archaeology, respectively.

I am currently completing my PhD with University College Dublin while living in New York. I have recently resigned my employment as the Tribal Archaeologist for the Tribal Historic Preservation Office and the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum for the Seminole Tribe of Florida. Additionally, I have taught Anthropology at a variety of colleges in the South Florida area.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anthropology

As an archaeologist, my background is rooted in the discipline of Anthropology. I am trained in the four-field approach: cultural anthropology, archaeology, linguistic anthropology, and biological anthropology. I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Florida Atlantic University in Anthropology. I was awarded the Florida Atlantic University’s Ethnic Studies Certificate in August 2003. As president of the National Lambda Alpha (Anthropology Honor Society) I received the Charles R. Jenkins Award in August 2002 as well as the Florida Atlantic University’s Arts and Letters Scholarship in June 2003. I have also been a member of the American Anthropological Association since 2003.

I have tutored and taught Anthropology classes both in a private setting and in a college classroom setting.

Archaeology

I am an archaeologist by trade. I am currently pursuing my PhD in Archaeology from the University College Dublin. My concentration in archaeology is the sub-field of Historical Archaeology. I have attended, volunteered, led and directed over five archaeological field schools. Through earning my master's through Illinois State University, I directed an archaeology field school in Donegal, Ireland. When living in Florida, I was employed as the Tribal Archaeologist for the Seminole Tribe of Florida for over 3 years.

Currently, I am employed as the Grant Writer for the Museum of Motherhood on the Upper East Side and assist in the historical context of the museum.

Sociology

As an anthropologist/archaeologist, I am heavily trained in sociological themes. In addition to training, I have taught college-level classes concerning the discipline including Social Environment, Introduction to Sociology and Social Behavior.
