ADD/ADHD
I have experience working with students with ADD/ADHD in both public and private school settings. When provided breaks to take a walk, get a drink of water, or just stretch, I have found that these students are able to refocus their thoughts and succeed. In addition, working in a quiet environment with limited distractions has helped my students tremendously as well.
Aspergers
I have worked with students with Aspergers in classroom settings. Strategies such as repeating information, asking for the student to repeat directions, and constant redirection of student attention have proven successful for student achievement.
Autism
I have worked with students with Autism in classroom settings. Strategies such as repeating information, asking for the student to repeat directions, and constant redirection of student attention have proven successful for student achievement. In addition, modeling appropriate social cues has also been helpful in aiding students in being successful with academic work.
Elementary (K-6th)
I hold Professional NYS Certification in Elementary General and Special Education Grades 1-6. I also hold Literacy Education Birth-Grade 6 certification.

I have experience with Fundations and Wilson Phonics Programs. Also have experience helping students decode words by breaking them apart by their sounds and then putting them together to formulate the word.
Reading
I hold professional certification in Literacy Birth-Grade 6. I have experience with the readers workshop model of teaching. In addition, I have experience with parts of the Wilson and Fundations programs to help with phonics. I am an avid reader and love to share that passion with my students to show them how rewarding reading can be.
Spanish
I am fluent in Spanish with the ability to read, speak, and write it. I started learning Spanish in 6th grade and took it all through college. In addition, I studied abroad in Madrid, Spain for a semester in college to strengthen my skills.
Special Needs
I hold Professional NYS Certification in Students with Disabilities Grades 1-6. I have taught children with various learning disabilities, learning delays, ADD/ADHD, etc in both public and private school settings. I am dedicated to creating lessons that are tailor made to meet the individual learning styles of all of my students.
Study Skills
I have worked with elementary school students in testing grades to help prepare them for the NYS ELA and Math exams. I have also helped middle school students prepare for everyday tests by using flash cards, graphic organizers, and other materials to make studying a more hands on experience.
Writing
I have professional certification in Literacy B-Grade 6. In addition, I am familiar with the writers workshop model in place throughout NYC classrooms today. I have experience holding writers conferences with students to help them improve their writing and to be sure they are meeting the demands of the assignment. Furthermore, I have found much success with the use of graphic organizers such as venn diagrams, a 4 square, story maps, etc to allow students to organize their thoughts before writing a paragraph or essay. This allows students to put all of their information in a more visually appealing and easier to read format so they are ready to write a paragraph or essay after its completion.
