All of Jane’s current tutoring subjects are listed at the left. You can read more about Jane’s qualifications in specific subjects below.

ADD/ADHD

I received my New York State K-12 special education certification in 2002. I also have a master's degree in elementary education N-6. Over the course of my career I have worked in public and private schools with ADD/ADHD students. I have worked specifically in the special education field for the last decade in Coxsackie, NY as well as with the Abilities First program. My experience includes all age groups and many types of special learners.

Dyslexia

I am an Orton-Gillingham trained tutor. My training/experience was obtained initially through the Kildonan School and I have continued to hone my skills throughout my teaching career. I have worked extensively with ESL content and am well versed in reading comprehension skills. Over the years, I have developed strategies to assist and support students in reading comprehension methods. All of these experiences support dyslexic student in their encoding and decoding of words.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified N-6 elementary education teacher with a Master's degree in elementary education received from SUNY New Paltz, New Paltz, NY in 1986. I have extensive experience in public and private schools in the Hudson Valley. In these experiences I have worked with students in the general education population as well as with students with special needs. I have privately tutored many students in this age group throughout my career as a teacher.

Phonics

I have been trained and have used the sequential phonetic analysis known as the Orton Gillingham method to help students read, write and spell. This approach allows the student to successfully learn and master phonics in a step by step approach. The student will uncover the sounds of consonants and vowels and then practice them until competency. The approach is multi-sensory and it will allow the student to use picture/word/sound tools to help them to learn the mystery of specific sounds thus helping them to learn to read, write, and spell. For example, r-controlled vowels can be remembered using specific words. Whenever a learner sees a r-controlled vowel in a word all they have to do is use the sound associated with that word. All "or" words such as forward or organ will use the same sound found in the word "or". I have observed great success from students of all ages using this method.

Reading

I am an Orton-Gillingham trained tutor. My training/ experience was obtained initially through the Kildonan School and I have continued to hone my skills throughout my teaching career. I have worked extensively with ESL content and am well versed in reading comprehension skills. Over the years, I have developed strategies to assist and support students in reading comprehension methods.

Religion

I have taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for several years. My chosen commitment in faith is Christianity. I am also a certified teacher in Elementary Education and Special Education. I have attended the local church for many years. I am an elder on the consistory board (governing body of the church) and have held many positions of authority within the local church body including co-chairperson superintendent of Sunday School, youth leader, prayer circle and mission and outreach representative.

Special Needs

I received my New York State K-12 special education certification in 2002. I also have a master's degree in elementary education N-6. Over the course of my career I have worked in public and private schools. I have worked specifically in the special education field for the last decade in Coxsackie, NY as well as with the Abilities First program. My experience includes all age groups and many types of special learners.

Study Skills

I am both a certified special education teacher as well as a certified N-6 education teacher. I have extensive experience in both of these fields in private schools, public schools, and one-on-one tutoring. I will ensure a positive experience for your child in need of a tutor in study skills.

As your child's tutor in study skills I will assist your child in developing a diagnostic and prescriptive approach that will meet his/her specific needs. It will be based on a systematic approach to help him/her to secure the skills necessary for success in his/her future academic endeavors.

Writing

As an elementary education teacher N-6 and a special education teacher K-12 I have developed the skills necessary to teach writing. Over my career, I have developed writing strategies that are helpful to students. When these methods are applied students will create thoughtful, well- organized, grammatically correct paragraphs.
