As your child's potential tutor, I would like you to know that I have had many experiences working with elementary-aged students and special needs students in grades K-12. I have worked in both private and public schools in a one-on-one, small group, and regular classroom setting. I have certifications in Elementary Education, Special Education, and Art Studio Education K-12. I also have acquired significant training in the Orton-Gillingham phonetic analysis technique. This is a highly effective and recommended phonetic approach which will enable me to assist your child in learning how to read, write and spell more proficiently. My desire is to work in a tutoring capacity assisting students on a one-to-one basis, or a small group setting.
Initially, using both the school's and my own resources, I will diagnose your child's specific learning concerns. I have been trained and have used the sequential phonetic analysis known as the Orton Gillingham method to help students read, write and spell. This approach allows the student to successfully learn and master phonics in a step by step approach. The student will uncover the sounds of consonants and vowels and then practice them until competency. The approach is multi-sensory and it will allow the student to use picture/word/sound tools to help them to learn the mystery of specific sounds thus helping them to learn to read, write, and spell. For example, r-controlled vowels can be remembered using specific words. Whenever a learner sees a r-controlled vowel in a word all they have to do is use the sound associated with that word. All "or" words such as forward or organ will use the same sound found in the word "or". I have observed great success from students of all ages using this method.
