I am a graduate of the NYU Steinhardt School of Education. I also did undergraduate work at Vassar College. I have two Master's Degrees and have always excelled academically. I have been a teacher for over twenty years, and I am both patient and thorough.

My specialty is anything and everything to do with the English language --- grammar, spelling, reading, writing (including college essays), speech and public speaking. I also coach kids who are involved in spelling bees, and I do a great deal of test prep --- NYS ELA exams, SAT and ACT reading and writing, and the TOEFL exam. My students range from elementary to adult, and I often work with ESL students as well. Another specialization of mine is College Counseling, a field which I have worked in for more than ten years. I greatly enjoy working with students, whether teaching or counseling, and although my standards are high, I try to make the experience enjoyable for them.

Grammar

From grade school to college, I enjoyed and excelled in the subject of English grammar. I am a mother of four and a teacher, and have had decades of experience teaching grammar to others, including preparing kids for specialized tests such as the SAT. Grammar is the foundation or building blocks that students need in order to read and write effectively, and this is where every student should start if they are ever to master effective written and verbal skills.

Reading

I am an English teacher and I work with students everyday, from Kindergarten level phonics to Adult literacy. I enjoy opening them up to the world of literature. Reading is an integral part of any learning process and allows us to explore endless topics and stories. I work patiently and methodically to both lower the students' anxiety and build competence and confidence in this area.

Writing

I have taught many subjects to all ages for decades. My primary focus at present is English. Although I love teaching English in general, whether reading comprehension, grammar, or general verbal skills, my ultimate passion is writing. Italian

I have been a teacher for more than 20 years, teaching various subjects to students of all ages. I studied Italian first in high school; then throughout my college years. I've become proficient in it and I now tutor students in NYC public schools (primarily high school) that struggle with the language. Proofreading

As someone who teaches English everyday, and specializes in teaching and tutoring writing in particular, proofreading represents 50% of my job. I am responsible for reading, correcting and editing short homework assignments, essays, articles and reports of all kinds for grammatical errors as well as content errors and inaccuracies. It has sharpened my eyes over the years and I tend to be a perfectionist when it comes to proper and correct expression of the English language in writing.

SAT Reading

I am a graduate of NYU's Steinhardt School of Education. As someone who regularly teaches reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary, working with students on the SAT critical reading section is a natural extension of that. I also incorporate many effective test-taking strategies and tips that I have learned over the years, and that help my students successfully maneuver through the SAT AND be effective under pressure.

Spelling

I teach all aspects of the English language, and spelling is something that both children and adults, native and non-native speakers, struggle with from time to time. I therefore work patiently and step-by-step with students, often incorporating aspects of phonics as a foundational tool. I also work through practice and pattern recognition over time to slowly improve this ability. This in turn enhances the students' reading and writing skills.

ACT English

I am a graduate of NYU's School of Education. I teach and specialize in everything to do with the English language --- ELA, reading, writing, grammar, spelling, pronunciation --- including test prep. Phonics

As an English tutor, I work with students everyday on their reading, writing, grammar, spelling, and comprehension. I spend a great deal of time teaching reading, to children and adults alike, and I often start with "phonics". I use materials that introduce new readers to the English language by first learning and becoming familiar with the alphabet and all the various sounds produced thereby.

Over the years I have taught English to students of all races, nationalities and ethnicities. I have a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Music Performance (violin and viola) from the Manhattan School of Music, and I have taught private lessons and chamber music for over 25 years.
