Hello! My name is Patty S. Thank you for taking time to view my tutoring profile. I would like to take a minute to tell you a little bit about myself, my goals as a tutor, and my expectations of the students that I work with.
First of all, I am a stay-at-home wife and mother of one. I am also a NYS certified math teacher with nearly 10 years of experience tutoring middle school, high school, college-age, and adult learners. I received my BA in math adolescent education at Nazareth College of Rochester and my MS in math education from SUNY Geneseo. In addition to being NYS certified to teach math, I am also trained and certified to teach students with disabilities at the middle and high school levels. I have worked as a substitute teacher in a classroom for 3 years, spending most of my time working in a school specifically designed for reaching students with disabilities.
I genuinely enjoy teaching math, and look forward to the opportunity to work with you or your student. My desire is to help students (and parents) accomplish their academic goals in such a way that will allow them to apply the math that they learn to future aspects of their lives. Thus, my goal is to see my students pass the class, exams, etc., in addition to having them walk away with some useful knowledge at the end of the course. I am willing to do everything in my power to see my students succeed. With that being said, the success of a student is not only a result of the work that I put in as a tutor. I expect any student that I work with to complete homework and other assignments given by the teacher. I will also occasionally assign additional practice for a certain topic, and I expect those assignments to be at least attempted, if not completed, by the next session. During sessions, I expect to have the full focus and attention of my students - meaning I don't want to see cell phones out for any reason other than contacting rides or for emergencies. Students should also come to sessions prepared with their textbook, current assignments, notes, paper, and a writing utensil.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or if you would like to set up a face-to-face meeting.
