All through my school career, up until my graduation from the New York Institute of Technology, I've both depended on extra help from my peers and tutors, and given it just as much. I understand that needing a tutor does not mean that one is not proficient in the subject - just, that different people need things explained to them in different ways. To that end, I am always able to see the potential in the people I help and my goal is to ensure that they see that same potential for themselves.
I've worked with the Long Island Children's Museum for three years as an educator, where the primary focus of my job was to ensure that all members of the visiting elementary school groups were able to understand and enjoy the subject of the exhibits. Following that, I worked as a tutor and computer
lab administrator at the Grenville Baker Boys and Girls Club, teaching many subjects from science
to graphic design programs and helping children with their homework. I'm experienced at both working with whole groups and focusing on one individual at a time to ensure they can keep up. I have also met with several students from my own university on a tutoring basis to solidify their understanding of the complicated techniques involved in computer graphics and animation.
The difficulty I see so many students face with the school system is how studying to pass tests is both stressful and unengaging at the same time. The pressures of schooling can turn the innate desire to learn into a frustration and lack of confidence that hinders even the brightest of minds. I strive to go beyond simply repeating the curriculum, and instead gear my lessons toward engaging my students with the subject and awakening their drive to succeed in a way that will reflect in their classroom lessons.
I am available to meet with any interested parties over Skype or phone line for a free consultation. I cover all my own travel expenses up to 20 miles distance. I am available to meet at any library, university or student's home. For technology-related subjects, please have all related software installed on a computer that meets its minimum requirements. My rate is $30 per hour for all pre-college-level tutoring, and $40 for college-level subjects and computer graphic programs.
I hope to help all of my students realize their own potential!
