Patient, Experienced Math Tutor--PSAT and SAT, Algebra and Geometry

My name is Jeff, and I am a longtime resident of Westchester Country. I graduated from Horace Greeley High School and attended the University of Virginia, earning a BA in Economics. Throughout my academic career, I excelled in math, scoring a 100 on my Algebra and Geometry Regents exams.

I've always enjoyed teaching and working with kids, gaining experience as an instructor for Heald College in Hayward, CA in addition to my regular day job (I've been an executive recruiter for over 20 years). About 5 years ago I began tutoring with a private center, helping students on a one-on-one basis to improve their scores in the Math SAT. My strength really is in Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry (and everything leading up to these) with a particular emphasis in Math SAT and PSAT strategies and tutoring.

As my day job demanded more time, I stopped working with the private center, though my interest always remained in tutoring. Now I have a nephew in 11th grade who I have been helping, and a daughter in 9th. I feel I relate very well to teenagers, can explain things in simple terms and focus on strategies for studying and test taking that really help. I'm patient and straightforward, with plenty of life experience to back up my motivational attitude.

Algebra 1

I feel I can bring some enthusiasm and clear understanding of Algebra to any student who is struggling in this subject. It's like a game, solving for X. I can show practical examples of how it can be useful, and explain in very simple terms how to grasp the knowledge needed to succeed in Algebra.

Geometry

I'm very strong in Geometry and can help students with all concepts they would be required to know for the PSAT, SAT, and all regents level classes. I relate well to students and can be effective in motivating them to practice and study. My focus is on understanding the basic concepts,and then drilling the student on the core principles.

Prealgebra

I'm very strong in fundamental math, pre-algebra, algebra, and geometry. I believe the key for the student is mastering the fundamentals, and also understanding how to go about attacking the problem so it is in a format they can easily solve. I'm a patient tutor who is comfortable working with kids of all ages.

SAT Math

SAT and PSAT Math are my strongest areas. I have 2 years of experience tutoring for a private tutoring company, and have had excellent success motivating and coaching high school students, enabling them to improve their scores and take the exam with confidence.
