If you live on Long Island and struggle with geometry, algebra, or general chemistry, or if you need help preparing for the most challenging section of the SAT/ACT, I can definitely help you.

I specialize in individualized instruction in algebra, geometry and chemistry for non-math/science majors. I also offer tutoring and coaching effective strategies for taking the SAT Math, which is section most students struggle with. I was a full-time math and chemistry tutor at the Academic Learning Center at Buffalo State College. Most students reach out to me because they feel they have nowhere else to go for help. But every student I ever worked with improved considerably (in many cases remarkably) in subjects they once deemed impossible to learn.

Many students and parents are skeptical when I tell them that they don't have to be math or science prodigies to succeed. They are often shocked when I tell them that ANYONE can succeed in math and science, if approached the right way. Over the years, I've discovered the main reason why so many students struggle with math and science. Aside from the material already being complex, it's taught the EXACT SAME WAY to a wide cross section of students, even though EVERYONE processes and applies information DIFFERENTLY. If a student does not respond well to the conventional way math or science lessons are given, it often leads to self doubt, embarrassment, reluctance to seek out help, withdrawal, and ultimately a complete shutdown. My special approach to tutoring is threefold: 1) Learn my student's natural problem solving skills and pinpoint their key strengths 2) Explain the material in its most basic terms and to explore the number of ways it can be applied to a problem, 3) Teach the student how use the material to play to their personal strengths, thus maximizing their potential. The key to academic success is not just in knowing, but understanding how to apply what you learn.

If you are looking for personalized instruction to improve your math or chemistry grade, or if you want to markedly improve your SAT Math score, please contact me. My travel range, schedule are flexible. My hourly rates are also negotiable.

I am also available for individual and small group home school instruction. I service all of Long Island from Nassau to Suffolk, from Manhasset to Montauk.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Chemistry

I tutored and conducted group seminars in general chemistry at the Academic Skills Center of Buffalo State College from 1998 to 2001. I also tutored chemistry at Stony Brook University and Suffolk County Community College from 2003-05 and 2007. Most of my students struggled with chemistry at first; many were on the verge of failing. But through with my guidance, not only did ALL of my students pass chemistry, many achieved academic honors. Some went on to become engineers, researchers and physicians.

Drawing

I am a professional draftsman and professional drawing instructor with twenty years teaching experience. I've taught classical drawing technique (fundamentals, perspective, anatomy, portrait) at the New York Academy of Art, the Stevenson Academy of Fine Arts and the Long Island Academy of Fine Art. My drawings and paintings have exhibited around the country and I have a high profile clientele. My work has shown and sold at auction at Sotheby's NY.

Passionate and intuitive — My son started a new high school 2 weeks behind. Not only did Randall catch him up on the subject matter, he has given him the test taking confidence he was lacking. Randall always goes the extra mile to make both me (a nervous parent) and my son (a struggling student) the information we need to approach the challenges of both 11th grade geometry and chemistry. He has an intuitiveness that allow ...
