Through a combination of my work, education, and extracurricular experience, I have developed strong skills that have enabled me to become a well-rounded individual capable of working different sorts of jobs. I thrive on challenge and change, and I look forward to new opportunities to build positive relationships every day.
My background in socio-cultural anthropology has helped me to construct ways to understand and analyze the world. Critical thinking and writing are inherent components of this, as are skills I plan to use in both my educational and professional future. The modern world is one of interconnection and independence; people who can think and write critically, appreciate diversity, and grasp some of the components of culture are uniquely suited to succeed. I believe that learning anthropology at the undergraduate level has given me the interpersonal skills necessary to succeed in this position.
My volunteer work combined with the extensive knowledge that I have acquired since entering the work field and my love for learning make me confident that I can be an effective tutor. I have been given honors since grade school and into college because of the dedication I have always placed on furthering my education. Additionally, my vast experience with customer service based receptionist jobs and community service in the past, along with my most recent position at Purchase College Admissions has equipped me with the patience and knowledge to handle people of all ages with patience. Therefore, I have the capability to become an integral part of helping your child reach his/her academic goals. I am also highly skilled in reviewing and revising a large volume of documents and am able to demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, accuracy and professional level of work. I am proficient in use of Microsoft Word and Excel, and have excellent keyboard and typing skills.
My experience includes but is not limited to: visitor services; office work; inventory management; mail management; mentoring and counseling; social activism, environmental and wildlife conservation; maintaining and repairing natural resources. Additionally, I have international work and/or study experience and am second language fluency helpful. I have the ability to work efficiently and independently with attention to detail and accuracy.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
B.A. degree in Anthropology (specialized coursework in Socio-Cultural Anthropology, with a minor in Art History & Visual Arts), Purchase College, Purchase, NY. 3.67 (Major, Overall, Upper Division) G.P.A. Graduated May 2013. Thesis: “Ma Ganga in Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge: Religious Rituals, Environmental Conservation and the Making of a Translocality”.
In India, the Ganges River serves as a vital site for Hindu religious rituals and ceremonies. The Ganges embodies the goddess Gan?ga¯ and is sacred to many Hindu communities. This ethnographic study explores how Indo-Caribbean communities in Queens in New York City have appropriated the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge as the Ganges River for ritual and ceremonial purposes. This usage of Jamaica Bay intersects with environmental concern over the pollution of the Bay, one of New York City’s few wildlife sites. Park Rangers have found objects used in Hindu ceremonies including hollowed out coconuts, saris, prayer flags, coins and food floating on or near the Bay’s shore. Drawing on participant observation and qualitative interviews, this study provides insights regarding the larger issue of how public spaces are made sacred, and how they are increasingly intertwined with discourses and practices of environmental conservation in the United States.
