Hello! I am an English teacher for The Institute of Reading Development. I have a bachelor's degree in English literature from St. Joseph's College in Patchogue and a master's degree in English literature from St. John's University. I am recently becoming certified to become a ESL/TEFL instructor. As well as working as a teacher I have had years of experience tutoring students in areas of English such as reading, writing, and grammar. I have tutored elementary and intermediate French students during high school and college as well.
I am passionate about reading and an enthusiastic motivator! Since 2010 I have worked for a reading company teaching hundreds of students from ages 4-64 to achieve fluency in reading and writing English, improving my students' reading speed and comprehension skills. My personal policy for working with children and teens is to work with them warmly, but also directly to really address problem areas. I want to set students up with study skills and help build motivation and enthusiasm so learning can be an enjoyable experience in a relaxed atmosphere instead of an anxious battle!
While in grad school I tutored many students in many genres of literature including American, Medieval, Biblical and Renaissance although my specialty is Victorian. I have worked with students on their grammar and general writing help when putting together papers and doing research. I am passionate about literature and am very well read. I am able to help young students just learning to read, to older students who need focus and motivation while reading and writing about the classics.
