As a tutor, I strive to teach a lasting understanding and knowledge that can be built upon so that my students can find the confidence and the tools that will be continually useful.
I believe that communication is key. I do my best to teach by using my student's viewpoint as the starting point then traveling to the point of understanding in a way that will facilitate future learning.
In addition to my tutoring experience, I have extensive experience helping friends and family with a variety of coursework, and so I feel that the tutoring experience should be fun, while still staying on task. I see learning as a journey that requires work but that is also very rewarding.
I have experience helping students prepare for the SAT, the GED, and NYS regents exams (Algebra 1, Algebra 2 and Trigonometry, Geometry, and Chemistry).
I have experience as a high school math tutor. My degree and experience in Engineering help me to demonstrate the usefulness of math in real world applications.
I am knowledgeable in Elementary Math, Algebra I and II, Geometry, and Trigonometry.
I can help with specific topics in Calculus I and II.
I am knowledgeable in Introductory Chemistry and Trigonometry-Based Physics (High school level and college levels).
I can help with specific topics in Calculus-Based Physics (College level for technical degrees)
I have experience helping with English and Writing courses. This includes using correct grammar and sentence structure; reconstructing a sentence, a paragraph, or an essay to better express an idea; and general proof-reading and editing.
I grew up in a bilingual household (English and Spanish), and I developed an ability to see beyond the actual words used to what a person is actually trying to say. I learned French in college so, I know what it's like to learn an entirely new language. I have also lived in France as a student taking coursework in French, and I understand that learning a language is also largely cultural.
