I am a former west coast native, but moved here in 2007 to study biology and Education at New York University. During my undergraduate and graduate studies, I have done research at microbiology, immunology, and robotics labs, even developing research and winning several undergraduate grants to promote the lab's work. Ask me anything about the life sciences, and I will either know it or know how to show students the way to find out. The beauty in science is in discovery, and I make a point to bring that into any teaching experience.
I have spent two years teaching NYS living environment curriculum, as well as assisting with some chemistry, physics, and structure and design classes. I have also managed and taught a literacy class designed to get students more involved in reading and analyzing enjoyable books. I even have a minor in creative writing and have extensive unpaid tutor experience in writing and vocabulary studies.
When talking to you, I make a point to focus on how YOU learn, not just on what needs to be taught. If you need visual aids, I will FIND visual aids. Work better with music or physical models? They'll be added into our curriculum. Need labs or nature walks? We'll find a way. I am aware that not everyone learns and same way and want you to use your own talents and interests to push your skills forward! As a result, I will spend some early time in our tutoring process feeling out your talents and interests, in order to constantly adjust. I'm passionate about the subjects I teach, and if you aren't by the time we're done, you'll at least remember what you need in order to succeed.
I graduated from NYU in 2012 with a Bachelor's in Biology, and a Masters in Science Education from the same university. I have detailed experience with New York's Biology and Math curriculum, and practice teaching and tutoring them to middle and high school students.
Teaching the Living Environment curriculum includes a broad and extensive coverage of ecology topics. As a former Living Environment teacher, I not only grasp these topics comprehensively, but have had experience teaching students these topics before.
I have a minor in creative writing from New York University in addition to my biology and education degrees. In addition, my time teaching included some extensive literacy work with a wide variety of high school students, improving vocabulary and critical thinking skills when it comes to reading.
