I am a patient, detailed, and energetic instructor.
I teach my students how to more clearly communicate their needs, and encourage them to be active in their own learning process.
I help them build confidence by providing them with many opportunities to discuss and work on curriculum.
I believe that our greatest obstacles can be overcome through hard work and determination; therefore, I work to change students' attitudes about the subjects that challenge them.
I have worked professionally as a literary consultant, using my skills as a proofreader and editor to help develop a manuscript. I received an 800 on the SAT II Writing Subject Test, and a score of 5 on the AP English Language and AP English Literature and Composition exams.
I have tutored in high school French as well as Algebra II/Trigonometry. I also have extensive experience coaching students in theatre and public speaking.
After only two years of study, I successfully completed my Bachelor's degree at University of California, Berkeley, where I was named a Regents' and Chancellor's Scholar.
I am now a graduate student at NYU, where I am a fellowship and scholarship recipient as well as a student leader.
I worked for three years as the assistant to Academy Award-winning cinematographer Haskell Wexler. I had the opportunity to meet other acclaimed directors (such as John Sayles) and to work firsthand with Mr. Wexler while new work was being shot and edited. I have also worked on set as a production assistant.
I do not profess to be an expert in film theory or film production, but would be useful to someone who needed help analyzing story elements and themes present in particular films or different auteurs.
I am enrolled in a graduate-level musical theatre songwriting course -- the only MFA program in Musical Theatre Writing in the world. I work with Tony Award-winning professionals in the field. I am familiar with song forms (AABA, ABAB, Verse-Chorus, Rondo, etc.) and their uses. I have spent the past year developing a helpful vocabulary and critique style which I would be eager to share with new songwriters. I also have access to great examples of songs that I could use when instructing students. I cannot tell them how to compose music, but I can instruct in the art of lyric writing, and give suggestions on how music can relate to the lyric.
I am currently a scholarship and fellowship recipient at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, where I am immersed in graduate-level studies focused on the art of musical theatre writing. I have worked as a writer, director and actor, and am experienced at offering helpful, direct critique. My undergraduate degree is a B.A. in Theatre and Performance Studies, obtained after only two years of study at UC Berkeley.
