As an ESL Instructor, I look forward to working with non-native English speakers who want to master the language, based on their individual needs. I specialize in teaching people how to develop and use American English conversation, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, and general comprehension skills in their daily lives. I love English, and enjoy sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm for the subject with those who want to learn and improve their language usage.
I received my TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) certificate in April 2005, trained for several months in a private language school in Newark, New Jersey, and then moved to Indonesia for more than a year to teach ESL to students of all ages. As one of two native English speakers on staff at OSSC Laurensia School in Serpong-Tangerang, Indonesia, I was responsible for editing all my colleagues' students' progress reports prior to them being distributed for review. I was also called upon to edit the quarterly school newsletter and drafts of short plays written by other teaching staff before they were approved by the administration and went into production.
After returning to the United States, I worked in the publishing and international relocation industries, which required me to use my language skills through extensive writing and speaking with many non-native English speakers. I have always worked with people from countries and cultures other than my own, in almost every job I have had, so I am very comfortable with citizens from all over the world, especially those who want to learn more. Since September 2013, I have been teaching ESL part-time for a small, private language school in New Jersey, and I enjoy it very much. Now, I want to expand my ESL/English teaching work to include private students living in the New York City and Northern New Jersey areas.
The only thing I require from all students is to be open to learning English using traditional, practical, and creative methods. Everyone is different when it comes to learning, so I will create lesson plans which will be tailored to each student's particular needs. I look forward to working with beginner, intermediate, and advanced English language learners in the New York City metropolitan area!
I am very familiar with American history, because I constantly read about the subject using reliable texts and Internet resources. I also did well in American history when I was in high school and college. As an American history tutor, I will focus on specific events and time periods using source materials and examine relevant points in each, depending on the student's particular academic needs.
I have always loved English, and enjoy sharing my enthusiasm and knowledge of the language with others. In addition to creative writing, I have additional experience writing and editing business letters, emails, newsletters, blog posts, and magazine articles. As an English teacher, I always teach my students how to use correct grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary in their daily lives. I also work on strengthening my students' reading, writing, speaking, and listening comprehension skills.
I received my TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) certificate in 2005, and taught ESL to students of all ages in Indonesia for one year. I currently teach part-time at a learning center in Rutherford, New Jersey.
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, with a minor in Communications, from Seton Hall University. I also have a Master's Degree in Travel and International Studies from New York University.
