Kenny scored in the 99th percentile on the SAT. A graduate of Stuyvesant High School and Vanderbilt University, he has over 10,000 hours of test prep experience (at age 10, he began preparing for the SHSAT and SAT exams).

Having received almost seven years of continuous of tutoring for these exams, Kenny has significant experience on both sides of the table. He knows which tutoring strategies work and which just create busywork.

Since Kenny began tutoring four years ago, he has worked with students ranging from the elementary through high school level.

During his free time, he studies educational psychology to continuously refine his teaching methods. By applying the latest research, he equips his students with the study skills they need to excel beyond their peers.

To maximize the effectiveness of his tutoring and the individual attention he can provide, he limits himself to 7 students a week. (As of December 20, he meets regularly with 6 students.)

Kenny has a patient and creative approach to tutoring. He helps students identify their weaknesses and works to help them improve their knowledge and skills. He tries to make each lesson dynamic, engaging, and enjoyable. He is committed to helping his students improve, and is always easy to reach by phone or by email with any questions that pop up in between lessons.

Frequently asked questions:

Q: Why should I get test prep tutoring?
A: Effective test preparation can result in a huge payoff: the most selective universities also award the largest financial aid packages (up to $220,000 over a period of 4 years). However, admittance requires near perfect scores on standardized tests along with a high GPA, a record of leadership/extracurricular activities, positive teacher recommendations, and an excellent college application essay.

Q: Where do you meet students?
A: Usually, in-home or in a public location (e.g. public library, cafes). I'm also certified by WyzAnt for online tutoring.

Q: When are you available?
A: As of December 20, generally any Sunday through Friday between 2 PM to 6 PM.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

SAT Math

I scored perfect 800s on both the Math section of the SAT and the SAT Math Level 2 Subject Test. I tutor students in SAT Math and the Level 1 & 2 Subject Tests using personalized homework assignments to target individual weaknesses, a comprehensive list of tips and strategies, the most recent official study guides, real past exams, and free online resources.

SAT Reading

I scored in the 98th percentile on the Critical Reading section of the SAT. I tutor students in SAT Reading using the most recent official study guides, real past exams, word lists/flashcards, and the best rated prep book for SAT Reading.

SAT Writing

I scored in the 96th percentile on the Writing section of the SAT. I tutor students in SAT Writing starting with a review of all the grammar rules tested in the multiple choice section and finishing with an "essay writing boot camp." We practice using real past exams to achieve maximum proficiency.

Excellent tutor with great teaching skills — Kenny has been tutoring my 8th Grader for the past 4 months. He has seen my child 1-2 sessions per week for 60-90 minutes. I highly recommend Kenny due to his knowledge of Math, the SHSAT, test taking skills and study skills. He has also facilitated my child in the start of projects, getting my child on the right track. Kenny is flexible, when necessary and always fair when it comes to billing ...
