I specialize in tutoring math, physics and the standardized tests, such as the SAT. I help students succeed in school, on the SAT, SAT Subject Tests, GRE, and AP exams.

I have always been passionate about learning, and I love helping others learn. As a result, I have helped students succeed with everything from the SHSAT (New York City specialized high school admission test), through the SAT, the SAT math, and physics subject tests, all the way up to AP calculus and physics, and beyond to the GRE, GMAT & MCAT. I have extensive teaching experience. I have been teaching adults for over twenty years, and I have taught middle schoolers for eight years.

I believe that my role as a tutor is to help you learn how to solve problems. I cover the necessary knowledge and techniques, so that you will be comfortable tackling even the most challenging problems - both in school and on any tests. At the same time, I use a fun and easygoing tutoring style, as it leads to a more effective understanding of the subject concepts.

I believe, moreover, that tutoring should be as personalized as possible. For this reason, I take the time to discover your interests, and incorporate them into the examples and problems that we will be working through.

My personal educational background is quite broad. I have a BA with Honors in Physics from Oxford University, along with an equally solid knowledge of Math and English, and an MBA from Columbia Business School. I have continued to use both math and physics in my professional career in the years since college.

I encourage you to contact me. I love learning, and I want to transfer that excitement over to you. I look forward to helping you succeed!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 is the foundation for all the math you are subsequently likely to meet in high school, and beyond. I know that algebra can seem difficult at first, but it is in fact highly logical, and has a very coherent set of rules. My approach to tutoring algebra is, therefore, to help you learn the rules and logic that lie behind all algebra questions.

I can help you learn how to deal with any algebra problems that you are likely to face, and excel on all your math exams.

Algebra 2

Understanding Algebra 2 is essential if you want to succeed on the ACT, the SAT Math 2 Subject test, or at AP Calculus. I know that algebra can seem tough at first, but it is in fact extremely logical, and has a very clear set of rules. My approach to tutoring algebra is, therefore, to help you learn the rules and logic that lie behind all algebra questions.

I can help you learn how to deal with any algebra problems that you are likely to face, and excel on all your math exams.

Calculus

Calculus can seem difficult at times, but calculus is actually highly logical. In fact, once you understand the concepts and logic behind calculus, it is in fact much easier to handle than many other areas of mathematics. My approach to tutoring calculus is, therefore, to help you learn the concepts and logic that underlie calculus as a mathematical discipline. I can help you learn how to deal with any calculus problems that you are likely to meet and excel on your calculus assignments and exams.

GRE

My approach to tutoring for the GRE is to help you to learn the techniques to answer GRE style questions. This is because the GRE examiners consistently come up with the same types of questions year after year. I can help you learn how to deal with these questions and excel on the GRE.

Physics

Physics can sometimes seem really challenging at first, but physics is in fact highly logical, and there are very clear rules that lie behind each physics topic.

My approach to tutoring physics is, therefore, to help you understand the rules and logic that lie behind all physics questions. I can help you learn how to deal with any physics problems that you are likely to face and excel on your physics assignments and exams.

Precalculus

Precalculus covers the advanced algebra, functions, geometry, trigonometry, and vectors that you are likely to need in a first semester calculus course. These topics can initially seem quite challenging, but they are really very logical, and they have a very clear set of rules. My approach to tutoring precalculus is, therefore, to help you learn the rules and logic that lie behind all precalculus questions.

I can help you learn how to deal with any precalculus problems that you are likely to face, and excel on all your math exams.

PSAT

My approach to PSAT tutoring is to help you to learn the techniques to answer PSAT style questions. This is because the PSAT examiners consistently come up with the same types of math, grammar, and reading comprehension questions year after year.

I can help you learn how to deal with these questions and excel on the PSAT.

SAT Math

My approach to tutoring for the SAT Math section is to help you to learn the techniques to answer SAT Math questions. This is because the SAT examiners come up with very similar Math questions - SAT after SAT.

I can help you learn how to deal with these types of questions, and excel on the SAT Math section.

SAT Reading

My approach to tutoring for the SAT Reading section is to help you to learn how to deal with the types of questions that the examiners are likely to ask on the reading section of the SAT. Fortunately, the SAT examiners test the same reading concepts in every SAT, and they test them over and over again, in each of the SAT Reading sections. (These reading concepts are reading comprehension, extended reasoning, and vocabulary.)

I can help you learn how to handle SAT Reading questions, and excel on the SAT Reading section.

SAT Writing

My approach to tutoring for the SAT Writing sections is to help you to learn the techniques to answer SAT Writing style questions. This is because the SAT examiners consistently look for a certain essay style in the essay section; and they similarly test the same grammatical concepts over and over again in the the other SAT Writing sections.

I can help you learn how to write a stellar SAT essay, and how to excel on other SAT Writing sections.

Trigonometry

Trigonometry can seem really challenging at first, but it is in fact highly logical, and has a very clear set of rules. My approach to tutoring trigonometry is, therefore, to help you learn the rules and logic that lie behind all trigonometry questions.

I can help you learn how to deal with any trigonometry problems that you are likely to face, and excel on your trigonometry exams.
